would like to sell a motorcycle
I am in Antigua, Guatemala and have a 1983 Honda SilverWing I would like to sell. Does anyone have suggestions on what city and country might give me the best price and the least hassle? My impression is that prices are higher in Mexico than Guatemala for example, but I have no idea of the paperwork involved. Thanks. Richard

That's a toughie!
I'd just check with the local bike shops and see what they'll give you for it - the paperwork is their problem as long as the bike isn't stamped into your passport. If it IS - and I suspect there is a stamp in your passport that says you have a bike - you can't get out of the country without the bike - or a police report that it was stolen. Use your imagination, and work with a local and you may get lucky. But it ain't easy! |
Grant, I've taken care of the passport issue in a, uh, creative manner. I know the prices are highere in Mexico than Guatemala, but am curious about El Salvador, Panama, Honduras, etc.

FWIW bikers I talked to in Honduras typically bought parts in Guatemala City.
And the import duties are supposed to be lower in Honduras than Guatemala. I would try Honduras. Maybe El Salvador (if you can deal with the paperwork just to get you in). T There's a lot less interest in bikes in Panama and Mexico, so I probably wouldn't try there. Good Luck |
