Where to buy insurance

Ok, so I have searched all the old threads for how to go about buying insurance for a bike in South America and I still have a few questions. So form what I have gathered it is best to buy insurance in Argentina because the policy will cover all the other countires I want to visit ( bolivia, chile, peru, columbia) I will be buying a bike in Santiago and then immediately leaving for Argentina. What I want to know is whether I need insurance for my border crossing into Argentina, and where I should buy my insurance in Argentina?? If there is a place in Santiago where I can buy insurance that covers multiple countries I would love to know. And do I need solely bike insurance, or is the liabilty insurance more important?? Finally, I want to know from experienced people, should I talk to the customs people in Spanish or just play dumb?? I can speak well, and would be able to talk about just about anything, but Ive heard it is better to play dumb and smile. Any advice?? Any help given is gonna be great. Thanks guys and ride safe

play dumb

from my experience when confronted with police in a spanish speaking country (Mexico) it came to my great advantage to not to understand spanish if the police were in any way harassing me, because it gave me (fluent as well) the upper hand in knowing what they were talking about amongst themselves. my advice is to understand the key words they are saying and respond like a gringo, and try to comply with obvious standard procedure.

Hi, if I may use this occasion and ask how you buying the bike in Santiago, I have just spent some time trying to understand how can I do it - what I gathered from several contacts it is not possible for me being tourist to buy a bike there (specially in this Iquique free custome zone) and register it -could you please give any hints.

Many thanks and sorry to rubbish your insurance thread. I am prepraing to buy a bike somewhere here in coming days and hope would be able to contribute something of value to insurance discussion.

kind regards
konrad
