Where is Everyone

Its funny you know - we have been travelling 12 weeks now and have seen hardly a soul with regards to touring bikes. Two American guys on our sailing from Panama, two guys thru Colombia but otherwise nothing in central America and no-one through Ecuador or Peru so far.... we really miss the biker catchups and gassing...... Would love to hear from anyone.

Cheers

You´re waaaaayyy ahead of the pack, OP. Maybe that´s what happens when you leave as scheduled, don´t get unduly distracted, make forward progress without too much circling, zigging or zagging....

Not that I´d know. I keep on doing all of the above, in addition to getting suckered by maps which clearly indicated major arterial highways which devolve into little dirt tracks, with or without major quagmires, landslides, etc.

I´ve run into only an occasional overlander--one by prior arrangement, one gentleman headed north on an Africa Twin who sniffed out our bikes in Antigua. Those two aside, I was expecting a bit more congestion.

I think I do stand some small chance of catching Traveling Strom at some point. Since I decided not to bring my own Strom, I´ll be interested in hearing how that´s going.

Safe journeys all!

Mark

Where are you Mark?

JulieBuny 15 Nov 2009 02:40

Hey nice to hear you guys are out there....its a huge Continent thats for sure. We're having bike problems so will be holed up in Trujillo for a week waiting parts..... but thats just life....you get on with it.

Peru is definitely not our favourite place - take me back to Ecuador I say or Colombia.. great places.

Will stay in Buenos Aires for the summer, since the city is so much enjoyable when everybody s gone to Mar del Plata and Bariloche.

I´m in Cusco today (Sunday) leaving for Puno tomorrow, then Arequipa. Expect to be in northern Chile in a week or so.

I´m in Granada, sweating out a lifetime´s accumulation of poisons while wandering the streets looking for a rear tire. If I don´t turn one up here I´ll try to nurse my current tire as far as San Jose.

Since I just offered to meet my new S.O. in Chile in a month--I don´t want her to catch on to how totally unreliable I can be just yet--I might have to quit with the distractions and point it south for a while. But the tire, plus a few other odds and ends, comes first.

enjoy,

Mark

I see you met Silvia at Hostel Wunder behind Bars

Ugh !!! not a place we would recommend.. Good you stayed at the Sheraton, we got stuck in Puerto Lindo for 5 nights too long....
We sailed on the Golden Eagle which was brilliant though.

Take care... we are stuck in Trujillo in Peru having majors with bike parts being stopped in Lima through Customs as it looked like Peru border have stuffed our entry....so one week later we're still waiting - ho hum !!

Cheers

Hi Bunny

Yep, the Hostel Wunderbar needs to change it's name to Hostel Craphole

Luckily only two nights there before we sailed with Bruce(Aussie joke) on the Golden Eagle, just got into Cartegena, unload this morning, great boat and nice professional trip

If you stay any longer, I may see you there, sorry to hear of your troubles.

Cheers

Glad to hear you had a nice trip - we had such a blast at the San Blas, got really burned, and I get seasick but it didnt matter. We had a wee bit of damage on the bike airbox but otherwise it was a fun ride.

We have good news though - a contact through HU, Wercol put us onto a friend in Lima and he somehow managed to get our parts out of customs and we are now in receipt of our badly needed bearing... So we are nearly ready to go... just having part put in as I type.

Cheers and have a great time in Colombia - we're envious - as we loved it there.

Bunny
