When to travel in Bolivia??

Freinds

I am trying to plan the rest of my trip down here ( currently in Puntas Arenas going to Ushuaia) and was looking for a little advice about the bolivian wet season...

Im want to go out to eastern bolivia sometime in april. However, I have heard that this is still the end of the wet season and many of thr rural roads in bolivia can still get flooded to the point of impassibility.... Anyonw know anything about this and when it is ok to start heading down to the altiplano and the jungles? Ill be leaving santiago about the beginning of march, am gonna go up to peru to kill like a month, the hopefully head east through bolivia an then back down to santiago to sell my bike and head home.

More or less, anyone who knows anything about the weather in bolivia in like april ( if it will be ok to start heading east) please let me know. On that note, anyone who wants to go ride out there, let me know, cause i´ll be solo by then and dont know how safe it is to do that ride solo..... Ok Cheers guys

Hi,

Am not really expert on weather but currently in Bolivia, prepared really well for the rain on altiplano and ... 40 + degrees C, no rain or quick showers. Fact salars flooded but a little. Just crossed salar de coipasa on small enduro, lots of cleaning after but what a fun. We came to Sucre to wash and service and going back there. It is so beautiful all this gravel roads, altiplanos, animals and vulcanos. So weather a bit surprise. They say El Nino or Nina but do not know how it works.

Regards,
Konrad

Bolivia

Hi,
well,we have had really good weather here for the past couple of weeks ie no heavey rain. If you planning a trip through the lowlands as I am this year, I'd try and leave it until June. It is the most fantastic country but if the weather is not on your side it could be your worst nightmare.

I would love to be able to wait until june, but unfortunately, by budget will not allow it..... I am hoping to start in like the second week of april, and from what it sounds like, if I do that, and get unlucky with the weather, I could be in for a real hurtin..... But a guy i met on here from Bolivia wants to do it with me too.... bol - ex: if your interested in going a little sooner let me know, cause im gonna go for it, but i HAVE TO be back in santiago, chile by the 1st of june...... i guess ill just hope for the best with weather. let me know if you wanna try and figure somethin out

Hi,
I've got a lot going on work-wise at the moment and that looks like it'll stay that way for a while. I was planning on going from La Paz -Rurrenabaque-Riberalta- Guayarmerin then up to Manaus then possilbly up to Caracus. This trip really does need to be done in dry season . Stay in touch because I can usually get away for a week or so anyway.

Bol -ex. Ill be sure to let you know when Im coming up. Im probably just gonna go for the trip east in about Mid April and hope for the best. If its too wet, I guess Ill just turn around, but I really want to go to the Paruq Nacional Mercado Kempff.... I think that is the name. You know anything about it? Ill stay in touch....

april is officially the end of the rainyseason for that area, but than, these days rainyseasons are not so well marked anymore. Once had a completely dry trip end of March in eastern Bolivia, and a year later, second half of May when it should be dry it was pouring down! Fact is that wet clay might be a big adventure, but no fun at the time...
