West side of South Yungas road Bolivia

Tomorrow heading from La Paz to Northern Yungas road and plan has been to ride Southern Yungas road after it.
Just looking google map and it looks like that there is one river crossing on west side of Southern Yungas road.

Have you been there? Is there a bridge?
At the moment in the middle of rainy season water level could be quite high...

The southern Yungas road was an absolute blast! We found more dust than high water, as we missed rainy season, but I don't recall any low crossings.

Hostal Sol y Luna in Coroico is highly recommmended (GPS: S16 deg 11.891 min / W67 deg 43.430 min). More info in our blog post: LINK

Enjoy the ride!

Northern Yungas road was cut from three different locations due to landslides.
At the gate they had no idea when it will be cleared and open again :thumb down:

I tried to ride to Southern Yungas road, but road to that direction was also cut due to landslides :thumb down:

I guess it is expected to have lot of landslides over here during rainy season... :rain:

Worst thing is that I need to take bigger road towards south tomorrow doh

Are you heading South? To be honest what you've experienced in the Yungas could be pretty common down to Argentina norte, and some parts of the 40 may well be unpassable as they looked rather in a bad way when I came down and that was a few weeks ago. On the plus side Rainey season should be abating now, February being the wettest month, but who knows with the climate being so changing. Coastal Chile and the Atacama will be fine in weather, northern Argentina around the 40 also very wet with monster thunderstorms! :rain:

Yes, heading south. Today I reached Oruro.
Now thinking if I should still go more south via main road, or head SW towards salt lakes and smaller roads.

I am actually thinking to cross the border from Bolivia to Argentina to ride northern part of Route 40.
From there I would cross to Chile to Atacama and then visit Antofagasta.

Today only small rain showers :)
