Travelling through Ururugay and Paraguay
 

We`re heading out of BA tomorrow after having our friends at Dakar Motos look after our bike.

We`ll be driving north through Uruguay and Paraguay (we know it will be hot) and I haven`t been able to find out to much information on the Hubb about the countries.

Anyone have tips on interesting roads or towns that we should see.

colonia do sacramento - uruguay. A very old and beautiful city. There is a "buque" - a fast roll on/off - from buenos aires/colonia.
I believe that you'd better ask to the guys in Dakar Motos - BA.
There are two hands embracing south america: one is in Atacama/Chile; another, in Uruguay :) :).

Actuazlly there´s not much to see in Paraguay, unless u want to see come crap places and corrupt police trying to rip u off all the time. I say this because I live in Iguazu´that´s the border with Paraguay and I´m there all the time for business purposes. If u want to come over to Iguazu, feel invited to have drink or whatever u need ok. All the best

I just came back from Punta del Diablo, Uruguay and it is a very pretty little fishing town with gorgeous beaches. Right now it is high tourist season, but you could still enjoy the place and either do some camping or rent a cabina a bit off the beaten track.

If that is a bit too full of people for your tastes try nearby Cabo Palonio, which I hear is an interesting little place with a small community and no running water or electricity.

As far as Paraguay goes, I have been living here for about 2 years and it has it's hidden gems, you just need to find them. I would recommend going to Salto Cristal, Lago Ypoa, Villa Florida, maybe see the Jesuit Ruins in Encarnacion or the world's second largest hydroelectric damn near Ciudad del Este. But to be honest, from a tourist's point of view there is not a whole lot to see or do.

Really the best thing about this country is the people and the rich culture, which you have to go out of your way to see, and it will not easily be found in Asuncion. Give me a shout if you pass by Quiindy and I would be happy to help you guys out if there is anything you need.

If you pass through Paraguay, be sure you eat a Chipa and drink Terere.

Are you referring to Ciudad del Este? If so, the corruption is understandable as this place is commonly known as the blackmarket Mecca of the Americas, and everyone is trying to get their piece of the pie. In other places in Paraguay you would be less likely to encounter these types of experiences (except maybe in Asuncion). Hell, rural police see so few tourists, my bet is they would barely even know how to solicit a bribe.

Thanks for the tips, we might check out a few of those recommended spots and give you guys a bell when we-re nearby. We know that Paraguay may not have the big attractions of its neighbours, but we-re more interested in meeting people and experiencing a little bit of the culture. Plus, just riding new places in half the experience. Cheers, again.

Just heading to iguacu now.........arriving tomorrow for couple of days before heading into Paraguay.
