Translation required

Hi Folks,
What's the Spanish for "starter clutch"? Google translate doesn't know.

(No, it hasn't gone again but I have ordered a kickstart kit. I think the woodruff key on the flywheel has sheared and I want to explain to a mechanic that the flywheel has been removed when trying to fix the starter clutch).

Thanks,
Dunc.

embrague del arrancador

Hi Dunch,

I don't speak much Spanish. But I do remember that cable de embrague was clutch cable and arranque was starter so I'm thinking embrague de arranque (em-BRA-gay day ah-RON-kay ).

I typed starter clutch into the translation dashboard widget on my mac laptop and it came up with embrague del arrancador (em-BRA-gay del ah-ron-cah-DOR). One of those two should get your point across.

Others who actually speak Spanish may know more.

Hope to see you down the road.

Kindest regards,
John Downs

Hola Ducan
Well isn’t bad… I mean the translation… not your bike, actually I’m impressed you got so far… hehehe..

You should tell him that: “Pienso que la chaveta del volante se corto. Otro mecánico retiro el volante tratando de arreglar el embrague de arranque.”

Well here in Argentina and I believe in many other Latino places we call “Bendix de Arranque” too.
Saludos

PS: Ohhh I forgot to say that my personal impression is that is really improvably to shear the woodruff key on your bike....

"Dios le da pañuelo al que no tiene mocos" (= "God gives handkerchief to those who don't have snots")! I speak Spanish, but lack the mechanics!

John Downs sounds totally right. I'd say "embrague del motor de arranque".

ARIAS-PAZ Motocicletas book -our bible in the field- refers to different systems to engage the "motor de arranque" (=starter), such as "embrague unidireccional" (unidirectional clutch?), "bendix desplazable" (moving/movable? bendix, term pointed by JavKap) and "embrague centrífugo" (=centrifugal clutch?).

A partial translation to add to javkap (who is more knowledgeable) if it helps to explain to the mechanic: "le desmontaron/sacaron el volante cuando intentaron reparar el embrague del motor de arranque" (the flywheel was removed while trying to repair the starter clutch).

Good luck,

Esteban

Thanks folks, it was the woodruff key. I thought it probably was because the flywheel has been on and off several times in the last couple of weeks and I haven't seen a torque wrench since javkap's workshop.
We put it on this time with a windy spanner so hopefully it should be OK.
So long as I have no more problems, I'll head for Sullana tomorrow and will hopefully be in Quito by the weekend where I shall be fitting a kickstart and drinking in the Turtle's Head.

Dunc.
