Transfering the title of a bike
 

Im currently in Colombia and am looking to buy a bike of another traveler but would like some advice on how to transfer the title. The bike is registered in California and neither of us are US citizens. Any idea on how best to navigate this?

Not a good idea to rely on anything you read on the internet, but Autokauf in Kalifornien USA is an account of one method that worked in California - but maybe does need the buyer to be there.

I used a completely different method that relies on the fact that I already have a Montana LLC - used to buy the Airstream motorhome a few years ago - so buying any number of US vehicles regardless of current state of registration without paying sales tax or having inspections or residency and doing it all via the internet or mail is easy. Just did exactly that for a CA registered truck camper a couple of weeks ago that is south of the border.

Obviously it is an advantage swapping title in the same state because then the plates should remain the same.

There are a few other states that allow absentee transfers and maybe ownership by aliens, but as far as I know, California isn't one of the cooperative states.
