We have just baught here in Peru 2 motorbikes and insured them - info on insurance:

(1) there is an obligatory Thirt Party Liability insurance called SOAT in Peru
(2) unfortunatelly it can be baught only for 1 year periods and is quite expensive - USD 150 (3) theoretically if you do not have one they take you motorbike and you pay fine, it can be that caught red handed you can offer some green to the officers but you never know
(4) we finally negotioted this to USD 80 per motorbike on the basis that we need it only for a month - we cried a liitle in main office of Rimac insurance company in MIraflores, Lima and they finally found the way to reduce the price, although the policy itself is still valid for 1 year
(5) this isnurance can be baught in many places also in banks and some shops
