temperature in S.Amereica

Just packing and re-packing panniers trying to leave out gear that will not be needed.
I have a heated waistcoat for my pillion girlfriend who feels the cold.I was only taking it for the Patagonia winds.
I will be down that way in December, would it be best to leave it behind ?

Cheers !

I was cold quite a lot in South America. Those bleeding mountains are real high.

You can find yourself in seriously cold conditions quite unexpectedly - following straight on from semi-tropical conditions sometimes.

I would say that a heated vest would be a pretty good item there.

I have to agree: in the space of 24 hours I went from the hottest I think I've ever been in my life (riding the streets of Santiago de Chile in full kit looking for a hotel that wasn't there) to the coldest I've ever been (emerging from the Tunel del Christo Redentor under the foggy shadow of Aconcagua and zigzagging down to the Argentine border post.)

I'd have sold your grandmother for a heated vest at that point - had to make do with newspaper wrapped around my body, a present from a fellow biker who was working in the border post. Very nice guy.

when in southern Argentina, it was so cold I put my rain gear on OVER my electric stuff and was still freezing! Course' once I got there, somebody told me there was a record breaking 82 degree day in Ushuia 3 days prior. Go figure.....
