stuck in colombia

hey guys...

im in the situation i have a car in colombia with mexican licens plates. the papers are done from a mexican resident to my friend she had to go back to denmark so we made a "poder" from here to me so i got a poder with a poder
now i cant get out off colombia because off the papers not are leagal from what they told me in the border we have tried everything to fix it but whas not posible with out my apereace in mexico we have tried to change lincens plates to colombian or ecuadorian but not posible again cos of the rule of importation and coz im danish resident so basicly im stuck in colombia with out any options we cant sell the car because of the "ley te importation" and we cant get out off colombia with the car because off the poder with the poder, and we cant stay because the visa is expiring. so the only solution i see is selling the car as a stolen car? anyone tried a simular situation that cant help me please let me know maby anyone that knows an other solution or how the rules are selling the car as an foreinger? can i cansel the dian with a car broken down and then sell it ? can i get in trouble selling the car as stolen? please help me im out of ideers im running out of time on my visa and my hair is getting more and more grey :( looking forward to get some replys

I think I would be trying to get a poder direct from the previous owner to you and use that....... How much is the car worth? More than a flight to mexico to do the Poder?

I would have thought the larger issue was entering Ecuador, who's name would the new TIP be in? If it's yours, a Poder in your name would be better.

Also, try turning up at the border more than once to explain your situation, different border officers could view the situation differently.....

the car is worth around 3500 dollars, we have been thinking about flying to mexico and make it but its putting more money in a car that dosent look like im gonna be able to sell coz the rules of importation in south america and that im running out of time and money.

we have been forced to drive in to the contry again to make the papers with out my apereans so we have been along way from the border so we have not tried again. he made it real clear that he whas doing what whas in his hands but could not let us trough

Tvip

A TVIP is the temporary import permit required for a tourist's foreign registered vehicle to be in each South American country. This has been established multilaterally since the demise of the carnet.

lubbetheone, we had a similar situation and resolved it by providing a medical reason for leaving Colombia without our motorcycles. We received extentions for 6 months for each bike from the DIAN by presenting signed medical reasons explaining why we had to leave the country without our motorcycles. Six months later we returned and had no problem exiting our bikes.

We had to go throught theColombian DIAN - http://www.dian.gov.co IFyour friend had to go to Denmark for valid medical reasons, you might be able to exit the vehicle without her if you provide some documentation regarding her medical situation to the DIAN and they might give you paperwork explaning your to the border officials who might let you exit.

You do need to locate the tvip issued when your friend entered her Mexican registered vehicle into Colombia - note the expiration date - for if the tvip is expired the authorities might impound the vehicle.
