Stuck between San Antonio and Cucuta, Col.
 

Both Venezuelan and Colombian Immigration work on weekends, so does Colombian Customs. It's Venezuelan Customs, who are screwing up my rapid commute home. But I fooled them. I had myself stamped out of Venezuela today, Sunday, and stamped into Colombia, since it's much more fun to live in Cucuta, than in San Antonio. In Cucuta is where the action is. The town is teeming with thousands of Venezuelan shoppers, has money changers galore, and almost every ATM spits out Col. Pesos on demand. The whole area is a free trade zone, and the border is open, no controls. I do have to go back to Venezuela customs tomorrow, though, to sign out the bike, otherwise the Colombians will not sign the bike in (stamp in passport).
If you're in a similar situation some tips:
(1)My favourite place to stay in Cucuta is the CasaBlanca***, inexpensive, swimming pool, A/C, with absolutely safe parking, where you can work on the bike, e.g. do a valve adjustment, or an oil change, even wash it.
(2)After crossing the border at San Antonio you will have to climb a mountain to San Cristobal. Be warned of that road. It is very steep with many curves, heavy truck and bus traffic, and haywire drivers trying to pass. (They see only one light (yours) approaching, and they will pass, no matter what). The centre of the road is a continuous oil slick, at times slippery mud washes across. Add a bit of rain, and a two-wheeler could be in deep trouble. So, go easy on the gas and brake, and no knee-sliding curves. Look down into the guardrail-less abyss on either side and shudder. It's the worst a paved road can get (in my opinion).
