Stranded in Arica

Hello all,

After 3 loooooong days ride from Santiago, I was looking forward to getting into Peru. However, customs did not want to let me out. The main reason is that the transfer for my bike sale still hasnt gone all the way through in the computer system ( even though it has been over 3 months) I speak spanish well, and the boss told me that if it was in my name in the system, then I could leave ( even though i have hopped between argentina and chile about 6 times now) Then another guy told me even if I did fix this, I couldnt take the bike out, cause unless I have a residency visa you cannot take a chilean bike into peru. Am i crazy, or is this guy stupid?? I know lots of people who have gone to peru with a chilean bike, anyone out there want to confirm for me that this guy is just dumb?? :confused1:

Do you have a RUT????

Tomorrow go a to registro civil office
adress:
Street.
Juan Noé nº803
Arica

Obtain the "padron" ( cost aroun 2US$) if the transference has been made , you will have a document that shows that the bike is yours.
And explain your problemn there.

Also there you can obtain a RUT if you dont have one...

Maybe you can go thru another pass...

Good luck

i went to the registro here in arica ( if i didnt speak spanish i would be soooo screwed) and long story short, the bike never got transferred to my name because they didnt have the official (just a copy, which the notaria assured me was enough) RUT form when making the transfer. so i got a legal copy made of my RUT card and sent it off to a friend in santiago to try to get the bike transferred to my name. the question is.... will the transfer happen immediately once they see my RUT is good, or will they have to retry it, and make me wait 10 days?? If they tell me 10 days, im going over to putre to try to get into bolivia. but hey, when my biggest problem in life is that i have to hang out in arica for a few extra days, im still living the dream. i feel im gonna get it all sorted out and ill have my arm around a peruvian girl in arequipa in less than 4 days. take care friends......

To make the transference, you only need the original "Contrato de Compraventa" ( Buy and Sell Contract) and then go to a r"egistro civil" office.

I think you are moving in the right way.

1-The notaria has to do a new "Contrato de Compraventa", whith your Rut or legal copy.

2-Then anyone ( the notaria guys , or your, at this moment, best friend, can take one original contract to a registro civil office and make the transference.

3-Im am quite shure that is instantly, then you can obtain your "padron" in any Office (Arica for example)

You have to put pressure over the notaria , so that they do his job has quick has possible.
