Storage location in Uruguay

Can anyone provide a recommendation for a safe and secure storage location in Uruguay? Argentina will no longer issue me a TVIP for an 8 month duration so I'm looking into storing the bike in Uruguay instead.

HUBB ad for bike storage in Uruguay

Hi Mr Steam Turbine, sorry to hear Argentina would not renew 8 month TVIP for your bike. could you provide details? While offering parking in Buenos Aires, we are always pleased when we can promote fellow HUBB advertisers.

Check REPAIR SHOPS, SOUTH AMERICA and there you will find an ad for bike storage in Uruguay.

Details

I've been riding through South America since 2010 by flying to Argentina every six months to ride for a month, then return to the states to earn enough money to fly back and ride another month. So far I've covered 30,000 km over nine trips.

Argintina must be clamping down on people that just continuously renew their "Temporary" TVIP because I tried to get an 8 month TVIP at the Atacama Chile crossing, the Colon Uruguay border crossing, and the AVIP Aduana in Rosario last week and all of them pointed to the regulation that says the TVIP cannot be issued for a duration that exceeds the length of the owners visa. Since I fly down on a 90 day tourist visa they can only legally issue the TVIP for 90 days. This has never been the case before.

Storage in Uruguay

Contact Kevin Lemes in Montevideo. His ad is in the Biker Friendly Uruguay section of HUBB. Very nice guy and he has secure storage cheap. One year TVIP.

I already stored my bike two times six months with him.
everything is perfect, he can be maintained even in the bike because his father was a motorcycle dealership.

There is a storage in Colonia, right in front of Buenos Aires, but their fee for motorcycles is fairly expensive (45 USD/month). Montevideo might be a better option if your return plane ticket doest leave from Buenos Aires. They do offer the service though of crossing the border back and forth to extend the one year allowance if you couldn t come back in time.

Can you let us know what border you tried to get the 8 month visa issued at?

marker 6 Sep 2013 11:33

8 months is (was...) for Argentina. uruguay gives tourists at landborders a 12 month permit

I must assume then that you are allowed to leave the country (Uruguay) with out your vehicle. Can someone please confirm this.
Many thanks.

I arrived to Uruguay by ferry from BA last February and was given a one-year permit. I did not have enough time to arrive by land but it did not matter as the permit was given for one-year no problem. The aduana off the ferry is just a truck next to the dock and i had to request the permit be written up, he would have let me ride on past. Moto is in storage with Kevin in Montevideo and is for sale...2008 vstrom 650 w/ Givi cases. Have rode Colombia/Ecuador/Peru/Bolivia/Chile/Argentina on it and it's ready for more. PM for details and thanks. I recommend Kevin as bikes are secure and started up periodically. And i can confirm that Argentina Aduanas will no longer give out 8 month permits on a short time visa...i was only given 90 days even though i requested 8 months.
