short-time Colombia leaving without bike
 

Hi,
Unfortunately (accident in family) we have to leave immediately Colombia. We have BOG-JFK tickets and are returning in 2 weeks time. Bikes will stay and wait for us in Bogota.
Except pass control do we have to register somewhere our departure without bikes? can we have any problems at the airport and when comming back?

Anyway we're planning to leave Colombia on motorbikes before 90 days...

Hi Voyager77,

If you fly back to Colombia before your 3 month temp. vehicle import expires and exit the country with your bike when you are done with family emergency at home, there is no problem.

I plan to fly back to the U.S. without my bike and return to Colombia. Others have done the same.

Hopefully others who have actually done this with first hand knowledge will chime in.

I left in 2008 WITHOUT my bike. I sold it to another traveller.

They didn't check or say anything.

However, things may have changed since then.
