Shipping to Chili or Argentina?
 

Hi Guys,

I am actually on a world trip (in Pakistan) and after reaching South East Asia, I will send my bike by air to South America.
The plan is to go first to Ushuya and then going north to Canada by the West coast...

One of my friend from France will join me there and will also have to ship his bike.

I would like to know what will be the easiest destination for custom clearance and also the cheapest? Actually thinking of Santiago du Chili or Buenos Aires?

I posted on this recently Stay away from Argentina for air shipment or be prepared to pay up to USD1000 to clear the bike. You cant do it yourself. I Chile you can do it yourself in a couple of hours about $300 USD. Dont leave the bike in the warehouse in Chile. Get it out the day it arrives if you can

The above link explains the process. I took an Uber to the Customs which is just outside the security gate and about 100 meters from the FastAir warehouse where you pick up the bike. I just checked the fees I paid by Mastercard to FastAir. One payment of about USD120 and another of about $80.00. One was for the transaction and one for storage. If you pick it up the day it arrives no storage. From memory there was no customs fee. I took some fuel in a small container. The packaging can all be left at the warehouse for no cost. Be sure to stay at Casa Matte in Santiago.

What a timely question!

I also wanted to send my bike from England to South America and planned to send it to Buenas Aires too, as it seemed the closest port and therefore probably the cheapest.

I spoke to Motofreight, who I’ve used before and they told me that the cheapest option is Santiago, Chile. The actual flights are about the same but getting the bike cleared would cost US$1,000 more in BA. I asked around and this was verified elsewhere.

My flight was sent via Air Canada Cargo and was So easy. Yesterday, I went to Santiago airport where I picked my bike with no fuss, no agent and very little cost in fees. I’m already riding south towards Patagonia.

Hi all,

I am actually in Thailand and I start to look for an air shipment from South east asia (Bangkok, kuala lampur, Singapore,...) to Santiago du Chili.
Motofreight can not do it, but gives me a contact but the cost is really high (4000$ without crating for a 270kg bike... and I don't know the exact weight of my bike with the luggage and the weight of the crate...so maybe even more expensive )
Do you have any other contact? Maybe someone already did it? If yes, what was his cost?
Any idea of a crate weight?

Weight or volume?
 

Often the volume of the shipment is more important than the weight. For air freight the volume is converted at 166. Here is a shipment volume 2.808 m3 which will be charged at 466 kgs or the actual weight if it is greater

When I shipped my bike from Auckland to Santiago it only weighed 300 kgs but was charged as 450 kgs. Cost me USD 3000
