Shipping a package to Peru and receiving it later
 

Hi everyone.
Anybody ever done this? I need to mail a package from the US to Lima or somewhere else in Peru and have them hold it and I will come and pick it up. A buddy and I are riding motorcycles from the US to South America, and we are trying to figure out a way to mail our spares out ahead of us. The package will be pretty large - have four motorcycle (KLR) tires and some warm clothes. I'm thinking about 3 ft X 3 ft X 3 ft. I just can't find anyone to ship it to that will hold it for us. We will send it out at the end of July and anticipate meeting it in mid-September. All my contacts in the US have fallen through. Any ideas? Thanks!

You'll have a problem with taxes as they have to be paid before the parcel is released by customs and they will only hold goods for a short time.

Import taxes here are around 40% of the value plus shipping costs, very unpleasant.

You can find tyres in Lima so its really not worth shipping them, although you'll probably have to compromise on choice.
