Shipping from Brazil - Need info on procedures

Looking to see if anyone out there has info on shipping (by Sea) from Brazil. We are trying to get the shipping done as fast as possible, arriving in Sao Paulo only a few days before the ship leaves. Hoping someone knows what the customs paperwork is, and anything else we could do to save time.

I did check the shipping reports, but most info was air shipping from the Rio airport. I assume that's a different procedure. We are shipping our car RoRo with Wallenius from Santos to Galveston.

Thanks as always.

I once shipped from Paranagua, and travelled on the same ship. Paperwork was straightforward, just handed in the paperwork to the agent. Biggest hassle was the permit for entering the port and drive the car on the ship (this took me 1 week), but as you go with Wallenius I assume you will be flying so the paperwork is for the agent. They will drive your car on board as well.
But then, brazilian officials love their bureaucracy and love to strike so to be on the safe side go there at least a week or so before sailing.

Hi marker. Thanks for the reply. Do you happen to still have contact info for your agent? Our shipping company is now saying that one is required for the customs paperwork, but they aren't able to recommend anybody. It's strange.
Thanks as always!
Jessica

Hi Jessica,

I shipped from Paranagua, aprx 500 south of Santos and used Oceanus Agencia Maritima SA.
Oceanus Shipping Agency Brazil

I see that they have an agency in Santos as well but ofcourse I cannot simply recommend them to you as it depends a lot of the guy who you get appointed. The one in Paranagua at the time was excellent

Awesome. We'll contact them now. Paranagua is looking better than Montevideo. We'll take what we can get at this point. Only agent to respond in Santos wants R2200 (US$1100) fee, just to file the customs papers. Seems crazy to me.
Thanks again!

US 1100??!!
Well my experience dates from 2002 and I shipped through Grimaldi Lines (altough nowadays you can't embarque with Grimaldi from Brazil I beleive, ony from Montevideo). When I remember well the agent costs back then was around US$ 100. But then it was RoRo and not a container. Hope for you the price has not skyrocketed like the one in Santos!
If you want to check out prices from Montevideo you can try to contact Carlos of alvicar@adinet.com.uy . Do not know him personally but have had email contact with him last year and he was very helpful and responsive.

Marcel
