selling a chilean registered bike in chile RUT question

Just some help with planning if you dont mind.

I read somewhere that I needed my RUT CARD to sell my bike. Obs ive got a RUT number. However to get the card I must go to the office of origin in Santiago. I dont want to go there!

Any ideas on this? I mean I already have the number. Is it absolutely necessary for me to retrieve the card?

AND if it is. Can I call to check its actually there?
Cheers

Claire.. currently in Bariloche on the Tornado 250..

selling a chilean registered bike in chile RUT question

Claire as far as I know you are supposed to have this card - but I think a Hubb member recently sold his tornado and was never asked for it by the notaria. In any case it would be best to have it. You can check online if it is there but unfortunately I do not have the link. Apparently you have 6 months and "nada ma" to get it, after which time I have no idea what happens to it? As a side question have you been getting the Chilean Aduana to sign your bike out on your passport?

My card with my RUT on expired with my visa so in same position as you - not even sure I can get one to sell bike so will probably just ride it up north and sells it without papers. This caused me issues when the Argentinan officials found the ID used to exit my vehicle had expired but you can just request the Chileans to sign it out on your passport as they would presumably with a non-plated chile bike (they just use the rut as default as they would for normal Chileans)

The office fella told me they keep the card for a year. So il risk it on pick it up on my very final return.

You can sell the bike elsewhere?!

Your question I have no answer to im afraid. I really have no idea what goes on with the customs ppl and their stampings..

Hi Claire!

Well the customs stamp Chileanos and their vehicles out using their RUT ID card and I presume Argentianians do the same as they have some sort of setup between the two countries where they can travel freely between without needing passport. This changes in Boliva, Peru, etc. My point was that due to not having, or rather, having expired RUT ID card that went with my work visa, I had issues but found out you can just sign out using your passpor as ID, which in this case I had no issues. This might be handy for those without the CARD. I am actually quite surprised Argentian Aduana never quized you on not having the RUT card.

As for selling outside of Chile people have done it and a lot of people asked me in Bolivia if they could have it off me and when I mentioned that'd be illegal they just said "sin papeles", i.e. on the download! So it is possible, certainly in Bolivia and probably Colombia and I think Turborob sold a couple of 125 CGLs in Peru, but under the table so to speak. The thing I'm not sure about is if you sold it to another backpacker and what would happen if they drove it back into Chile, maybe they'd get in but pretty sure both previous owner and buyer need to be present at either Notoria or down the registry office for transaction to go ahead.

Ah ok got it. Yes ive never been asked for the RU card at crossings. They do everything with the passport. However the number is on the Padron. BUT only the police at step 1 Want to see the padron. Customs (aduana) only want the form that I get from the border police (step 1) plus my passport.

Ok so selling in Colombia might be my best option... cheers

Allot of things can be got at the "registro civil" for small money.
A copy of something usually costs 840 pesos.
For example if you loose your padron, thats how much you pay to get a new one.
Allot you can get at ANY registro civil in Chile, its all in the system.

You need the card to put anything in your name, but I would say that your passport is all you need when you want to sell.

yes, if you sell outside of Chile and the new owner wants to go to Chile he has a problem. He might be ok to cross the border if the previous owner on the padron gives him a "poder" signed in a notaria, but this doesn't help to put the bike in his name in Chile.
You are right, BOTH have to be present in the notaria in CHILE.
