How to Sell a Bike in South America in 6 months time

Hey guys me again :thumbup1:
I know this subject has been breaced a 1000 times befor
so I will tell you what I think I know and if possible you will tell me the rest

Ive got a transalp 650 and will want to sell it in about 6 months time
It has australian papers
It will have around 50-60k on the clock (not much for a transalp)

Ok so

I have heard that its easy to sell in Paraguay??
Is there other contries thats its easy to sell in ?

How much do you guys think I should be asking for it?
I know my model in Arg/Chi/Bra etc. goes for around $12,000 us

Should I sell it with all the frills eg. heated handel bar grips, auto chain oiler (like scott oliler), extra driving lights, Paniers (soft), tank bag etc.??
I know this would probably be relative to the buyer ( a fellow overlander, a local)

I also know that in Argentina there is a small loop hole; that if the bike is older then 22years (I think) you can sell it without tax (appatently its not to hard to get this changed for ur bike, I guess depends who's hand u greas)
I think this rule might be changaing in Aug ??

So if any one has anything to add ...... Leagal or a bit shady I dont mind , one must know all the rules to make a good plan (if you dont want to be on the fourm PM me, I give u my word to protect my source :gunsmilie:)

Or if any overlander out the interestd let me know and ill send some Pics.

Anyway hombres
Suerte where ever u my be
Maciek

Ps im heading for Paraguay, Bolivia, Peru, Columbia .... leaving San Pedro in a couple of days

Hey Tobi
Its true the bikes and for that matter cars are super expencive here. Ive seen it a t the bike shop. My firend bought an Africa Twin in Chile for US $13,000 (you can sell it for the same with papers).
Ofcourse I dont expect to get that sort of money as my bike is with australian papers and not form South America.

You can probably get a cheap chines bike in Chili for $3000 US
But dont buy in Argentina, not that you cant its just as a forener you cant leve Argentina with it. (there are ways around that but not really leagal).
Hope this helps
Cheers M

Im looking for a bike in south america in about this time but i dont think you can get US$ 12.000 for a used transalp. Thats double the price they ask here in europa for a new one. Or did you mean US$ 1.200.- ? Thants what im planing to spend on a new 125ccm Honda etc. We could make a deal anywhere in SA...

Hi,

Well he

My Bike Adventure | Ondrej Jurik

spend about 1300 US$ for a 125ccm Honda in chile. Would it be possible to get a bike in brazil an legaly register it there as a tourist?

To buy in Brazil you will need a local address for the paperwork to go to and possibly something like a water bill from what I read on some other threads. Should not be too hard to find with a google/hubb search.
Its doable if you know somebody there or maybe even a bike shop might organise it for you.
I remember a Brazilian advising not to buy in Rio,
Good luck
