For Ruta 40 just remember that there is no rush to get anywhere and try and enjoy the ride! |
Some decent info about the road there Brian,
we're hoping to make it in the december or january, we're 2up on R1100GS also, currently in Brazil. Maybe see you guys on the road? Ride safe, Margus & Kariina yhelteljel . ee |
just passed that part
hej guys,
Am so glad i arrived safely in Barriloche after the enduring kms to Ushuaia...2 women on a bmw f650gs..full loaded as well...and I must say it was hell to get here. the wind..the most difficult ride i ever had to do. had an accident 15km before the border, into Argentina again (Aymond). The wind just blew us of the road ( at that moment 120 km/hr they told as at the border afterwards, checked before we left but according to lady all ok) when a truck passed us at an incredible speed. Am riding with a broken clutch handle, hope to reach Mendoza like that. 2 months on the road, havent met a single biker, except very quickly with 2 brazilian bikers, at Glacier perito Moreno, who did not speak english, nor spanish :-(. yesterday and today our 2 first summerdays here in barriloche...wow...what a change...am glad i left that southern part behind me and can start riding up north...to the heat..he he he. drive safe and be carefull for the winds... cheers, pascale |

Condition of RN 40
Sorry if this is a repeat post, but am on a a dodgy internet connection that just dropped out.
I´m travelling with three friends and a guide on rented Transalps from BA to Ushuaia and back, now in El Calafate. I woul like to echo previous comments about RN40, but would like to add that the section from Rio Mayo to Perito Moreno is the worst. Losts of road construction means that traffic is diverted onto a parallel tmporary road that is in poor condition. The bike rental places advise that a lot of bikes have fallen in this section. Cheers |
Hey Pascale
Hey I´m in Baraloche right now just waiting for a sproket for my DR 650 if you are still in town I´m staying at la bolsa hostal drop in for a beer will be heading north through chilli or Argentina in the next couple of days.
Thanks to everybody who came up with info on the 40 it i a good road and well worth the time. Cheers Rich |
We just finished the Bariloche to El Calafate stint and loved most of it. Mostly the ripio sections. I can post the coordinates of the start and end of the main sections if anybody is interested. For us the real wind didn't kick in untill after Gobernador Gregores. Had the best day of dirt riding the day before that. The gravel is not deep nor heavily corrugated.
We had a great experience with the dude at Bajo Caracoles. Siberia had no fuel yesterday. |
Co ordinates
Plese post them, I am on my way to tackle the ruta in about two weeks
|
No worries. Note that we went through Gobernodor Gregores which detours you for a bit on Ruta 23.
