Which road? Mendoza/Argentina - Osorno/Chile

Hi,

we will ride from Mendoza to the South, and like to travel on small roads, unpaved even better... Do you have any sights that we shouldn´t miss? We like to cross the border several times, doesn´t matter if there is customs or not...what do you think - where should we go?

Thanks for your ideas - Jens

Where can I find a good map of the Dakar Rallye Route?

Jens:
There's some great riding along the border, around Alumine (Argentina) and south to Bariloche (take in San Martin de los Andes) - west of Ruta 40. Also some great scenery/roads on the Chilean side, southeast of Osorno, Chile. You're in the Lake District on both sides of the border, so lots of nice rides, clear skies, clean water.

Some of the riding includes some dirt portions, but nothing difficult if you stick to the main roads (you can get into some tough sections if you work at it).

Enjoy.

Quastdog is right, it's nice in Chile south of Osorno. In the North it is really boring, I would stay on the Argentine side until the crossing near Bariloche.

Dakar Route not given out until the evening before

I have been chasing the same information. And after talking to competitors and support crews the concensus is that the best available is the one on the Dakar website. It will get you in the right area. The actual route is not given out until the prior evening ( I think it is to stop any pre-running).
