Road conditions in Bolivia

right now i'm in the andes in Peru. I calculate, reaching and crossing Bolivia in march, at the end of the rainy season ...

Does anyone has experiences with Bolivia during the rainy seasson: What about the roads? I heard from landslides, shut down alleys ...

I'm riding a klr650.

Bolivia has had less than normal rains so far, we have just spent few weeks there and are now in Chiclayo, Peru heading North into Equador next week.

There were some Pistes unpassable South of Uyuni from heavy rain, so stay flexible with your route, talk to bikers coming North and locals, especially tour operators/drivers.

My wife and I are also heading south, currently on the coast at Macanara so are interested in your opinion of road conditions. I'll drop you a PM when I have an idea of what route we are considering, but it is sounding like Uyuni may be a touch too hard to get to at this time of year ? My wife has found her bike a touch heavy, with her short legs, in loose dirt and mud.

I rode from Potosi to Uyuni 2up on a DR650, the piste was easy apart from some loose (but not deep) sand in places. (it is 60% asphalt now)

If you get good weather and the pistes are dry I would definitely give them a go from Uyuni into San Pedro de Atacama/Argentina, saves a lot of backtracking up to Ororo and across to Arica.

We stoppd early in Piura, and seem to have achieved the impossible, we have obtained 1 months SOAT for only 97NS :-) I will post details in a bit.

We stopped at the "HI Hostal Posanda" on the south edge of town.

Oh, another quick Q, did you use the Pan Norte (old road) across the desert or the New Pan to the east ? If the old Pan, is it true about the head winds ?

we just spent the last few weeks riding through bolivia from ollague in chile to uyuni la paz and through to peru on 125´s and had no problems apart from all the bumps but nothin major and it was actually a beautiful ride
