Road conditions amazon
 

Hi guys,

Have been looking for hours but can't find any info. anywhere on the roads in the Amazon apart from the Department of Transport Brazil, which is in Portuguese (obviously!). Maybe its obvious but my question is:

How are the following roads?
1. From Venezuela to Manaus
2. From Santarem to Maraba.

We will probably be doing these routes in rainy season - February, March 2005.

Only help I have is to relate a story.
We wanted very badly to ride the TransAmazonicas from Manous to Porto Vehlo. In Manous, we asked around and everybody said it was impossible, even with our mighty XRs. So we took the boat. When we got o Porto Vehlo, we met the local enduro racing crowd who said it was not only possible but really fun, as they did it the month before and had great pictures. Definitely ask the locals, but take it with a grain of salt, I find them to usually be overprotective. On your KLR, you should be able to do a lot.

Just do what we did in the wilds of Bolivia- take extra gas, extra water, extra food, a bottle of good whisky, and some dynamite.
