Road from Belen to Cafayate, North Argentina

Hi All

We are two up on 1150gs. Has anyone travelled this road recently. On the map there is a stretch of offroad around 52km long. We prefer not to do offroad but if its good compacted would prefer this routing as much shorter.

Any thought welcome?

Cheers

Hi JulieBuny,

We did this road twice, most recently about 5 weeks ago (2up 1100gs).The section you mention is not technically difficult other than a single patch of sand that stretches about 3 meters long. This patch stuck in my mind because I did not see it until we were in it. Still, it wasn't too bad as we did not fall. I have no doubt you will do fine taking the Belen to Cafayate road.
Oh, and yes, in almost all places it is compacted. Some stretches we are able to bring our speed up to 90 km per hour to give you an idea.

The road has some interesting scenery.

Cheers

Hey you guys, thanks so much - sounds okay then. We can walk through the sand if we have to. We will do that way then. Finding accom in Cafayate will be our next challenge ahahahaa - very busy time of year.
Does it go up very high or is it a straight or windy type of road?

Thanks again
Jules

As I recall it was a rather straight (ish) road that never ventured very high at all. And the climate in that area is very dry. Drink lots.

Hey Brian
Well we crossed Belen to Cafayate - man the maps are so wrong on kilometres of offroad vs pavement. BUT we had a great day of riding - compacted offroad of about 40km which included quite a bit of fairly hard sand, few soft spots but the biggest surprise for you will be the six fords we had to go through.

Unfortunately for us - it rained the night before...but we tackleled them all with only one being a little deep.... Took bags off first and gave it a handful and were through.

Thanks again - we probably wouldnt have gone this way without your advice.

Cheers

Hello Cafayate

Hi all who wander this way.

We have been at El Hospedaje, Cafayate for the last 5 days. An excellent hostal/hotel with wi-fi, breakfast, pool and moto parking right outside the door of cozy modern rooms surrounding the pool. reasonable....Corner of Salta Camilla Quintana de Nino...

The festival was great and we are looking to relocate here. We forded a river washed out road ourselves en camino a San Carlos

I think there is a vacancy and we are leaving tomorrow.
