Ride to Rio -2016 Olympics in Brazil

I have decided that I want my South American trip to coincide with the 2014 Olympics in Rio de janeiro. It may be a wee bit premature but I'm just putting it out there for anybody else who might be interested to keep in touch leading up to it.
Maybe with a group we could rent a house with security parking, or even just catch up for a few drinks, or meet up on the road to Rio.

I'm probably going to be flying in to Santiago, buying a bike and heading off from there.

Post if you think you might be interested.

Cheers,

James

Well, maybe you're a bit premature, or I might be 2 years late......

Either way, I haven't the faintest idea what I'll be doing around the time of the Rio Olympics. But having been close to the London ones the last couple of weeks (living on the southern edge), it seems distinctly appealing to be in S. America with a bike around that time. :mchappy:
(Have spent 5 months backpacking in S.A., about a week in Rio, quite a while ago).

Will keep an eye on this thread. Thanks for starting it.

Cheers

Not too early to start the design of ride stickers for your bike.

I'm thinking Spanish/English top and bottom:

2016 Olipiadas de Rio o nada

2016 Rio Olympics or bust

In a circular sticker with olympic rings in the center.

Goofing around and planning future rides is half the fun. The older I get the faster four years passes by. If I'm in South America in 2016 I'm in. August is the dry season in Amazonia so great time to head north through the roads less traveled in northern Brazil afterwards.

Kindest regards,
John Downs

As a Londoner by the time Rio comes we will still be paying for our event, so will be broke.
I don't think the money grabbing organisers will appreciate an unofficial sticker with the olympic rings on it.

Yep, you're probably right there.

Anyway, my slogan would be:
"2016 - London to Rio Olympics or Bust!"

"2016 - Londres para OlimpĂadas do Rio ou Quebrado!"

You're right again. So I'll print it on this t-shirt - maybe:

No Olympic rings, but instead - the London 2012 logo - being desecrated!
As far as I know, the manufacturer hasn't received the expected writ yet. And I haven't been cautioned for wearing it around London.
When I explain it's a protest against the draconian protection given to every aspect of the Olympic and London 2012 logos, solely for the benefit of McDonalds Coca Cola et al, I get a lot of support.

As far as the language is concerned - I'm a regular user of the Crystal Palace Sports Centre. For the last 4 weeks most of it has been occupied exclusively by the Brazil Olympic Team. No harm there, they probably paid a good chunk of money for it.
They departed today so we got our pools back.

For 4 weeks I've thought "Time Brasil" (emblazoned all over the huge banners strung up all over the place)
http://i1263.photobucket.com/albums/...timebrasil.jpg

was an advert for a Brazilian maker of timing devices (clocks even!)
This morning I found it was Portuguese for "Team Brazil"!

"Of course, I forgot! It's Portuguese!"
Glad I got put right there.....

I think you will find 2014 is the football world cup - for those that want to get a head start.

The coverage of the Olympics over here has been pretty good (obviously focussed on the local athletes) and the comments very positive, so well done Britain for putting on a good show that the whole world seems to have enjoyed.
