RHD in South America

A friend is strongly considering Pan America in a Land Cruiser, but using a UK car and shipping it back when the trip is done.

He's also been told that Bolivia, Honduras and El Salvador don't allow RHD vehicles.

I shall be looking at the appropriate websites to try and establish if this is correct or not but was wondering if anybody has recent experience?

Many thanks in advance

Previous owners of our IVECO spent a couple of years driving around Central and South America and I specifically asked them about this and they reported no problems at all. Personally I only have experience with Argentina and Chile (also mentioned as banning RHD cars) and it was never an issue at the border posts.

Was a source of constant amusement for the locals though, and momentary bemusement for the police who always did a bit of a double-take and then came around to my side of the vehicle to conduct their business.

Thanks all, appreciated.

The impression I got was that it's possible, just takes a little effort.

Based on the "what they don't know about can't hurt you" reasoning, one suggestion I was given was when approaching a border post, try to park so the front of the vehicle is facing away from the office windows.
