recent Cuba experience?
 

I'd like to ship my bike from Venezuela to Cuba, and then from west Cuba to the Yucatan Peninsula on my way back north instead of going through Central America again.

I've read some past Cuba posts and it seems legally possible to get a foreign bike into Cuba, but I've seen no details.

The Cubans will gladly let you in with your bike. Just don't ever expect to leave with it. I've seen 3 bikers give up over the last 5 years.
Forget it...

The Latin American Motorcycle Club, in Chicago organized a trip with bikes to Cuba a few years ago. You could look them up and contact someone from there.

Just a little late but if you really want to make it into the coutry it is possbile through the ports of La Habana, Cienfeugos, or Santiago.

I got into and out of the place just barely with my bike Dec 2010 and out in Jan 2011 it was a crazy fun place to go ride. I shipped up on a boat with my bike into Cienfeugos and out of Santiago back to the same boat I came up on.

Throttlemeister, what were the problems with entry and exit, and how did you resolve them? I assume you were on the Stahlratte.....?

If you get a little too close to a certain very "special place" on that island the military gets a little wild especially if you don't have a certain "eco tourism permit" that allows you to camp in the mountains that I didn't have. I think they thought I was a spy and then they took everything I had for a little while...

Lulu on the SteelRat got me talked into going up there on the way to Cartagena, it was a good choice and I was not dissappointed but I missed a lot of the SA season in doing so but I'm not disappointed! He's been many times there with the boat but had never taken a moto up yet so it was interesting for the both of us.

Entering in Cienfeugos is the best leaving out of Santiago is the worst because apparently the customs officiers are very bored and looking for somekind of excitement.
