A possibility for storage is Cristian at Andean Roads. He charges about $60 per month for a full sized vehicle and has a large shed as well so could be he would be happy to tuck the bike away in a corner at a greatly reduced rate. He also has basic camping facilities there as well (shower, power, wifi). Probably limited opportunity for tents but depends on how many vehicles are there.

I've flown into BA twice - with a suitcase full of stuff - and both times the customs booths weren't even manned. Just the immigration. Nor guaranteed mind you, but I was happy I didn't have to explain two large suitcases full of non-personal stuff.

I've heard that arriving in Uruguay by sea, you only get 3 months TIP.

If Argentina gives you 3 months then you have the option of crossing another border and returning and hoping they give 8 months. Once you do get 8 months, I haven't heard of anyone running into problems leaving and returning on another visitors visa within the 8 months. I have heard of someone actually asking Aduana if they could do that and being given a resounding NO. Don't ask, don't tell probably a good idea.

Rocking up with a couple of tyres under your arm might be pushing things a little. Bringing dollars and euros in and changing them on the dollar blue market will end up with being able to buy stuff locally quite cheaply

Subarumafia, perhaps my "Alice" and "Kansas" references were a little misleading.
The Alice reference is attributed to the 1951 film "Alice in Wonderland" hopefully, no more explanation necessary.
Now, the "Kansas" reference comes from the 1939 film.

And, subarumafia, a question for you.... in which country is your bike registered? I have noticed that bikes registered in bordering countries have little or no problems obtaining the 8 month TVIP, over and over and over again.

Tony Lee, if you are speaking about EZEIZA one of Buenos Aires's international airports - upon arrival, you do have to slide your luggage through a scanner and you have to fill out a customs form handed to you on the plane during the approach to the airport.

If the items in your luggage do not match what you have stated on your customs form, you are running a great risk.

I have been waiting a long time to share this non fiction account about a dog.... thanks Tony Lee for giving me the opportunity.... this really occurred high up in the Central andes of Peru about 9 years ago. It was our first multi country South American ride back when Elisa (rosa del desierto) was riding her Honda XR250 Tornado and I my Honda NX400 Falcon.

We were tired and very hungry but had arrived at a region with neither electricity, restaurants, stores or anything except small and very humble homes and a dirt tract.... I noticed a hand painted sign that simply read POLLO (chicken) so we pulled in and was greeted by an amiable Peruvian who welcomed us and inquired about our journey. We were all loaded up with full kit as we had been camping - bush camping most nights - after exchanging names and cordialities, I asked about the POLLO sign , and he asked "do you want a whole chicken"? "Si, Si that would be fine".

He motioned us to a small wooden table and we sat on two white plastic chairs and then he explained it would be awhile, but he could serve us a whole chicken.

Here is the part about the dog. He whistled, you know one of those two fingers in the mouth kind of whistles, and a little fox terrier came scrambling out of the house and stood at the feet of the Peruvian, and the Peruvian snapped his finger and pointed to an adjacent field.

Off ran the terrier and soon returned with a still wing flapping, loudly protesting chicken in his mouth. You guessed it the Peruvian wrung the chicken's neck and disappeared into the house where I am sure he deposited the dead chicken into a pot of boiling water and removed the feathers... then it was all slice and dice chicken asado.

We were amazed at the intelligence of the dog, and Elisa (the real intelligent one of the group) said I should ask the Peruvian "what if we wanted beef"? I asked when he returned with our Bar B Q (asado) chicken and he replied without missing a beat... that he had a bigger dog.....

Eat Drink and be friendly to all who park motorcycles in South America, it ain't easy..........
