Question for Our Portenos or any other helpful Argentines...

Question for those who know their way round Argentine laws...

If I, say, had never bothered getting my bike licence in the UK, and travelled for the last 10 years with my car licence, could I get a moto licence in BsAs? Any reason why I couldn't take a test there and get an Argentine licence? Would a domicilo stamp be enough, or would I have to get my residencia first? Any clues? All help is appreciated...

Suerte, Dan

Might be a good idea to put your request in Spanish if you want help from Argentina?

Como va Dan!

Let me ask here how could that work.
I think that making this "certificado de domicilio" at the police station maybe could work out.
Are you coming to BA?
Remember to share a few Quilmes de litro with us!hahaha
Hasta mañana pibe

dan its ok, if we are reading a forum in english we know some english...
let me tell you the little I know, each municipality issues driving licenses, you have to be a resident in that area, you also need an argentine ID card, so the very least would be to establish an address (the police may go to your house to verify it) then you get an ID card,(cedula ; or DNI documento nacional de identidad this last one is very hard to get) then you go for the test etc. you can only ride bikes over 300cc if you are over 21.
How about getting a british one through the mail, do provisional ones still exist...? my british bike license is 20 years old now !!!

this is the page for San Isidro, nothern suburb of Bs As

Good info - thanks, Charlie.

And yep, BCK_973, coming back to BA in the spring, looking forward to some happy, Quilmes-fueled nonsense. And maybe even some riding...

So after talking.....

To diferent localidades(San Isidro,Vicente Lopez and Villa Dolores Cordoba) they all told me that without an argentine DNI or in case of foreigners a valid residence(residencia) it is imposible.
I think Dan your best luck is to cal Mr Foto Shop and ask him for a good license.
Have senn a few......will PM you.
Nos vemos en marzo......cuanta Quilmes nos tomamos?

Interamerica License

My wife and I have Interamerica driver's licenses that we purchased from AAA in the US for $15.00 each. They are good for almost all of South America along with our own country's license.

You may check and see if there is such a thing in the UK through AAA? or another type driving assoc.

We are residents in BsAs and never bothered with the local d.l. as it is a hassle to get.

Matt
