Problem with driving licence in Argentina

Hi,

I plan to buy a bike in Buenos Aires (200cc) and travel around South America for the next 6 months. I do not have any motorbike driving licence (I have only international "B" licence for the car). I have two questions:

1. Is it very probable and frequent (in practice) that I will have problems in case of the road control if I present only my international "B" licence?

2. Is it possible to extend my current driving licence in Argentina which will allow me to ride a bike (any administrative procedure, exams etc)?

I do not have Argentinian residence. I only have "domicillo" and CDI (tax number) - documents that I collected to buy and register the bike on my name.

Thanks for help

Marta

Best bet is to use your license from home country not international drivers license? They won't be able to read that it is not endorsed for motos. The bottom line is if you want to be legal you will need to go home and take the test for motorcycle endorsement then come back, no fun. Just go for it.

I honestly fail to see why anyone would ride any bike in a foreign country without an endorsed license, that is just asking for bubba to be special friends

Seriously, get a license, they have very bad driving habits everywhere down here and the chances of an accident are therefore increased dramatically, if you are not covered and get invloved in one, you are in deep doodoo!

As waterfox said, if we came to your country and did that we would be in trouble as well.

I do ask myself what would you think if I tried do do likewise in your country??

Hi Waterfox and TravellingStrom,

Thanks for your answers. Hovewer it looks like you forgot about my 2nd question:

"Is it possible to extend my current driving licence in Argentina which will allow me to ride a bike (any administrative procedure, exams etc)?"

I would be really greateful if someone could give me advice on question 2...I would really like to have a piece of mind while riding my bike...

Marta
