Northern Argentina Route

Hello mates, it is almost time to enter into Argentina with our DL1000 with sidecar, and we are trying to put together a good route at the Northern side of this country. We are now crossing Bolivia and plan to enter Argentina at La Quiaca to get to Tilcara.

Our rough plan would be something like: Tilcara-San Salvador Jujuy-Concepcion-Catamarca-San Marcos Sierra-Rosario-Mendoza-Valparaiso (Chile).

We do not use GPS maps, we mostly use paper maps, and we follow suggested routes/places and invitations offered while we travel :thumbup1:

We would like to have some advice/suggestions on routes we'd better take or places to visit along this rough plan and make a really cool ride.

Thanks

Salta to Tucuman should not be a direct drive. Instead should go to Cafayate, Quilmes, Tafi de Valle, then Tucuman. You should try to spend about 2 weeks in the Northwest of Argentina. There is a lot beautiful places, especially on the roads towards the Chile border.

All this info is really helpful, we are planning to spend about 1.5 months on the north side of Argentina. Then cross to Chile at Mendoza. Any more suggestions are :welcome:

I'd stay close to the mountains from Salta to Mendoza - beautiful roads. No harm crossing to San Pedro de Atacama and back from Salta over Paso de Jama (tarmac) and Paso Sico (dirt) if you have the time - stunning landscapes.

Whatever you do, don't change you plans and decide to ride down the Chilean side!! Argentina north of the Mendoza-Santiago line is a must. Atacama Desert has very little to offer in comparison.
