diariosde 30 Mar 2006 06:00

I have a KLE 500 (red, 1997)which I am willing to sell, preferably at the end of may, beginnig of june. Austrian registration, some 60000 km on the clock, regular service. So far it took me for 17 000 km through South America, with just the Speedometercable broken. I would sell the Topcase (Givi), some small sidebags, and (if wanted) the tankbag with it, and throw in helmet, (old) gloves and (old) jacket for free. Asking price would be 3000 US. Write me an email, if you are interested: K.Mellacher@aonmail.at.

Hi Arlen Aas - You sound very knowledgable about buying bikes in South America, please can you help. My girlfriend & I are planning to fly to Chile or Puru in the middle of August this year and then ride up to California or further. Do you know anyone who's selling a suitable bike ataround that time ? It would be a massive help and if you could put me in touch with a resident in Chile or Peru that doesn't mind us using their address to register the bike. I would really appreciate it if you could tell me how I register a bike in these contries/
Thanks a million,
Jas

Buying bike in Chile

If you search on this site for articles from Jens, you will find some info on buying bikes. He has spelled out his experiences looking around in Santiago. He ultimately bought two Yamaha 600XT's from rental agency in Osorno. He is traveling for 8 weeks and I suspect would sell the bikes. Not sure where he will land but I suspect back near place that he purchased them. Likely that those persons (where bought them) would sell.
If you can wait until Jan 1 of 2007, my two bikes would be sitting at north tip of Chile and I'd be there to transfer bikes to you. Paperwork is farily simple. A dealer can do that for you or I can help if I am there. I understand that there are lots of bikes for sale in Santiago. If you can't find Jens, let me know and I'll get you in contact with him. Also...send me a personal email on this site please and we can talk there..........

Cool thanks Arlen ! I'll check Jen's stuff when my boss isn't looking over my shoulder.
My email is jelliotmurray@yahoo.co.uk , pls send me yours on this address so we can chat more.
I have to be in Chile or Peru in August as I cannot spend another minute in this office - thanks for the offer though.

Cheers,
Jas

Lovley xt600e 2001 in Peru in July

Hi,

I have a fantastically reliable 2001 Yamaha XT600e for sale. Its done just about 45,000k, fully kitted out with Hepco & Becker racks and panniers + top box, Acerbis 24l tank (range of about 500KMs), tall H&B windscreen, crash bars. Its got a new MT60 rear tyre and front is a Metzeler Sahara. Full service history, this is a super reliable air cooled single. Handled 5000m fully loaded 2 up without a cough over the Andes.

I bought it in Santiago de Chile from Victor Marquez and its Chilean registered so nice and easy to sell and transfer.

We plan to be in Peru early July to sell the bike... but plans change, so let me know where and when you need one! If it doesn't find a new home then its coming back to the UK with us !

Here are some photos of the bike in action, note we no longer have the tank bag as it went with the little original 15l tank.

Rutger,

I belong to a group called Chinariders. One of the members is from Peru and is named 'Perata' and he owns a Chinese enduro. He said there are many people with Chinese bikes as well as dealers there. It really depends on how much abuse you are planning to give your bike whether or not to consider a "cheaper" brand, however. Check out www.chinariders.net, and find Perata's post under the forum asking where people live. You could contact him to look around for you. See if this link takes you straight to his post, but you would still need to register with the group. http://www.chinariders.net/modules.p...r=asc&start=15

Link to this site; they give tours and also rent Honda motorycycles in Peru:

Dear Yuma,

Thanks for the information. I am planning to travel 4500 kms from Lima to Buenos for doing that I have to cross the Andes. Do you have any idea if a chinese endura can do the job?

In a short answer, yes. But it really depends on how rough of terrain you are taking. The Chinese bikes have come a long way, but I consider them more as great starting bikes, and recommend them for people who want to get into bikes by learning how to ride on dirt etc. The big advantage of them is the engine is very well built as it is "cloned" from a Honda XR200, or at least uses a lot of the tooling. Because of the low price, you should only look brand new, so as to not get someone's abused ride, which I consider an advantage over buying most anything used. Here's a link to a group of people in China who took a long trip on Zongshens: 2 rode 10,000km in 31 days on them. I would contact member 'Flying Gringo' as he has a lot of insights into bikes.

Have a good trip!
