Motorbike roadtrip:Peru, Lima - Argentina, Buenos Aires (Jan-Mar)

Hi All,

I am flying to Lima this saturday and will hopefully be able to find a bike to buy and drive down to Argentina.
All suggestions on finding one and routes are more then welcome!

In case some one is all ready driving part of this route, feel free to join/meet!

Really looking forward and getting kind of nervous if finding a bike and getting the paper work / boundaries registration etc will be able to get taken care of..

Kind regards from a cold and rainy Amsterdam,

Chris

Hi, sorry my English is not very good. You can go to South for the Pacific shore, in Nasca go up the mountan and hit Cuzco, then Bolivia and Argentina.
If you like to eat fish all the coast from Lima to Chile and go in Argentina for Jama Crossing. Good lucky

talk to Toby

Toby lives up in the mountains north east of Lima, an overnight bus ride away. He source a motorcycle for you and get the paperwork in your name for a reasonable prie. I assume you arrived in Lima today, which doesn't give Toby much time to organize a bike for you. Reach out to him and see if he can help you. Half of the effort is finding and buy a bike. THe second half is getting the paperwork in your name. Toby is an really great guy. He will take good care of you.

Follow this link for details. Not sure it the offer is out of date, but I think it is still good.

Have you had any luck?
I've been doing the same thing.
I considered (all new)

XT 250 USD 4750
XTZ 250 Tenere USD 5200

TORNADO USD 5100
CRF250L USD 6100 - Honda Peru sells this without a warranty......

ZONGSHEN/MINSK/HONLEY ADVENTURER 250 USD 3500

DR200 USD 4300

DR650 USD 5800

Have a look on olxdotcomdotpe for second hand (and new).

I was on my way to buy an xt250 when i saw that some dr650s had been imported, so bought the Suzuki. I now have a three week wait while they do the paperwork......

Good luck and feel free to get in touch if you need a hand.

Hi Chris,

it might be too late but still I want to share with you my experience! I did almost the same as you are planning, bought the bike from Toby (Aroundtheblock, link see above), it was a chinese 250cc Honda Tornado copy. No problems on the road at all, perfectly prepared. If you are planning to go to Bolivia with a peruvian registration be aware that you need sort of a temporary exportation-document, it´s similar like a carnet de passage, but you can only get it in Peru at a private agency- make sure to get it in advance, I just realized that I need it at the border and had to skip Bolivia. Chile and Argentina are easy going, make sure to keep spare fuel on the long stretches in the chilenian desert and the argentinian mountains. You could have a look on my blog (ride-and-sail.com - Travel Diary from Streets and Seas around the World) to get an idea what route I took, if you have any further questions you can wrtite me too- I am now in BA and sold my bike (in Paraguay for a few bucks).

Cheers,

Arved
