money carrier in Bolivia?

Anyone heading south from LaPaz, or north from Oruru?? In Patacamaya, I bought a liter of oil from a woman, asked if she had change for a 50 note, and somehow in talking, putting in oil, we both screwed up. She gave change for my 50, and I never gave it to her. So, she's out 50 boliviano's, a rather large amount for her. Anyone heading that way who has PayPal??? I could drop the money in your account beforehand????

Lorraine, you must be highly commended for your honesty, best of luck on your travels.

lorraine 19 May 2008 20:48

Thanks Dave. If it was just the oil, I wouldn't bother. But she gave me change for a 50, as if I'd bought it. Still looking for someone, isn't ANYONE in the area with Paypal???

I can't help you, but I just wanted to say are doing a good thing for the reputation of moto-travellers

I'm sure there will be a plethora of travellers before long en route to Ushuaia, wanting to do a good deed. ;-) So, with that in mind, my email is: LC at LorraineChittock.com, as I'll forget to check this thread!

Wow. That´s really heartwarming. You´ve got class.

On a similiar note, I need somebody to deliver a swift kick to the groin to a guy who slipped me a fake 100 sole note in Peru.

31yo AUS male seeks elderly woman in Patacamaya

I think i`ll go via Patacamaya once my liver tells me it is time to leave Sucre and i look at a map. How do i find this woman? Don`t worry about the paypal. Karma has kept me alive this long. I sent you an email direct but posted this in case i can`t locate her and so someone else may!

Hey Simon

Simon D.,

Caught you on the Hubb! Easy on the firewater... you don't know where it's been!!! :(:(

So... in Sucre now? How much time do you have for this overall trip? You seem to be quite taking your time.....

I won't be that way for another year, 16 DAYS, 09 HOURS, AND 53 MINUTES !!!! Sorry...... did that sound desperate??? :helpsmilie:

Isn`t safer to drink liquids that have been distilled or brewed!?

I have no time limit. In the past 6wks i`ve spent more time in bars and discoteques than actually riding my bike, so i think that is a good sign i`m finally tiring of riding motorcycles long distance, 140,000km later…

That`s why i`m not worried about 50 Bolivianos, as there were enough times where i`ve bought drinks for girls and still nobody gets an oil change!

Simon, that's very sweet of you! I JUST this moment got to Chile and a bit befuddled. Let me send you the directions to your private messages folder tomorrow. And no, I didn't get your email. Could it have been you were just a tad worn from the late nights??? ;-)

I nearly forgot about this...

About 3 weeks ago I passed through Patacayama and found a woman who seemed to match your description. All I needed to ask was if she remembered a gringa in a camioneta and she remembered the van colour, that you had 2 dogs, and that you bought oil. But she had no problem with this transaction. When I suggested that you remembered not paying, she just looked at me funny. After some time conversing she still didn´t think you owed her anything, so I assumed that she was too busy too notice at that time (as she was at this time) and your memory is better than hers, considering you went to the trouble of creating this post. I´m 98% sure I found the right woman, and so gave her 50Bs. I guess that even if 2 gringos are wrong there there is at least one happy Boliviana oil vendor. I took a photo of her and her shop for verification, and she even pulled from under her counter a new hat to wear in the photo, as she was pretty happy! I´ll send it when i can.

Donations gladly accepted!!!!

Good on you Si,
I have a funny feeling i will be in need of 50 sole note delivered to me in a watering hole in Pucalpa if you happen to be around......
Seriously though, good job i'm sure you will be rewarded karmagicly,
Arthur

You are a STAR Simon!!!!

The reason she doesn't remember, is that I SHOWED her the 50 B note, but never gave it to her. You know what it's like, NO ONE has change for anything under a 10. I just wanted to make sure after I got the oil, I wouldn't have to wait half and hour while I/she searched for someone who might have change.

It was only later after I was long gone, did I put my hand in my pocket and discover the 50 was still there.

Now, if I totally screwed up and had two 50's (very doubtful), then she is very, very lucky indeed, and we are both really stupid gringo's. Of course, she's probably still shaking her head about this....

At any rate, THANK YOU, and if you're heading south at all again for the Xmas meet (?) I'll happily buy you a few bevies. If not, another continent perhaps????

May the karma gods reward you with plenty of good tidings. ;-)
