I am sure that you can find insurance in Arequipa. You will find the most current info from locals (even your hostel may know an insurance office, or the gas station attendants), but here's a couple of ideas to start:
MAPFRE - Av. Víctor Andrés Belaunde C-28 La Positiva - San Francisco 301 |
The is a company down the street that sold me insurance for my UK reg BMW.

Thanks guys,
I could find thous places. The pity it was Friday six o'clock and we left Sunday morning early. Offices closes exact that time. So we will try to get the insurance in la Paz. |
I'm not sure I understand you right, but you can't buy an insurence for the bike in Peru or Bolivia that covers whole south america. Kolombia, Equador, Peru and Bolivia insurence companies can only sell 3rd part for the own country. In Chile it wasn't possible to buy one for a foreigner bike. The only country it was possible to buy an insurence for Mercosur was in Argentina. Depend on the company they cover, Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Brasil, Paraguy, Bolivia and some also Peru.

Is my understanding you can buy insurance that covers Arg, Chile, Peru and Boliva as one?, i.e. anything that touches the chile / Arg border with maybe the exception of Paraguay and Uraguay?

Here some links
Companies in Argentina, but there are many others as well: Federacion Patronal Seguros (Covering Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brasil, Bolivia) Federacion Patronal Seguros SA | Home | Home RSA (Covering Argentina, Chile, Uruguay, Paraguay, Brasil, Bolivia, Peru) RSA El Comercio Seguros For Peru (SOAT = 3rd Part): La Positiva only covering Peru La Positiva Seguros In Bolivia Crediform International S.A. they working togather with Federacion Patronal Seguros and RSA in Argentina. Maybe you can buy there the Mercosur insurance. Address: Potosi N 1220 esq. Ayacucho, La Paz (Tel. 591-2-2315566) |
In the Mercosur countries it is called SOAP. I got mine in Chile, but had to use the agent in Argentina. It was only made difficult by Western Union not explaining the process of foreign transfer to us or our mis-interpretation, probably the latter.

The balance of my post, didn't.
I am in Arequipa Peru whereby not being a Mercosur country I am required to carry SOAT insurance. I visited the La Positiva Seguros lady in Moquega this morning who got on the blower to the grown ups in Lima who quoted 270 Sols ($90) for a years worth ant there was no negotiation for a shorter period of cover Jumped on the bike and came here to Arequipa where I will seek a better deal using the leads posted on this site elsewhere (thanks) Had my insurance papers requested by the police roadblocks twice in Argentina. One cop read and spoke good English, I don't think trying to offer dodgy paperwork to these guys will wash....... Cheers |
