Insurance in Buenos Aires

Hi folks,

I know the topic has already been treated, but i cant find it anymore and the search function doesnt help me much.

I stayed in Buenos Aires for 2 month without insurance riding around all the city without insurance (and even helmet), which is not a problem in the Capital Town, since Police wont bother motorcyclists, but in the Province, it s a different problem. Since i feel like enjoying the summer in the mountains (Barriloche), i want to buy an insurance for Argentina.

Can anybody advise me an insurance company for foreigners on foreign imported bikes for Argentina (eventually Mercosur) in Buenos Aires? Address, email and telephone please.

Thanks in advance.

Philippe

About insurance...

Hi Phill... I'm from Argentina and if you've been riding there you already know that even outside the Capital any problems with the police for the insurance only, takes 5 or 10 dollars to fix it with the officer... so go ahead and do it, the insurance companies will ripe you off ... and won't cover a thing if you don't go to court first...
Best advise use a helmet to comply with the laws, in that way you won't give any reazon to the police to stop you...and hence, they won't ask you for the insurance...
Ride safe over there, I saw the news and it's worst than Iraq war... 15 deads a day in traffic accidents....
Loner...

Hi Philippe

Talk to Sandra and Javier, they'll point you in the right direction.

Thanks both of you for your answer,

I agree loner, it would be much more reasonable to keep the helmet and in Europe, in an over protecting regulated environment, i would wear every possible protecting gear when i go riding...but..you know..that feeling of freedom..the wind in the hair...not to have to think about your helmet...the temptation is just too strong and motorcycling is also about pleasure and freedom.

I don t want to buy an insurance to be refunded in case of problem, but to be insured against police corruption in the Province. I recieved an address with a 35 pesos per month quote on the community forum. I prefer this option to feeding the corruption.

Mick, regarding the automatic "Sandra and Javier" automatic redirection for every question concerning Argentina...their services dont fit everybody s needs and personality (sorry to break a forum concensus).
Regards

Try the ACA, automovil club argentino, main office(huge building ) on avenida del libertador 1850 in Bs As, they have offices, hotels gas stations etc. all over the country, and mechanical cover . It is the Argie version of the RAC, AA or AAA
It is a club so they won't knowingly rip you off
Cheers

Argie insurance

I use Sancor Seguros, a large national insurance company.
It costs 9 pesos per month for my 2001 KLR650, third party only.
If you visit the Mendoza region you will be asked for your insurance docs at every police check.
regards,
Enjoy Argentina !

insurance argentina

Hi there, I've just come back from four months travelling through ecuador, peru bolivia and Argentina and was never asked for insurance even though I was stopped numerous times. All the police asked for were the registration document, the customs documents and driving licence.

You just need one corrupted police officer to refund your insurance bill...and an insurance does insure somehow in case of big problem...you can prove you did what you had to do to protect others from your damage. Social concious behaviour.

I bought 3 month insurance for 105 pesos at ATM segura not far from the obelisque in Buneos Aires (center of the center)
