IMPORTING PARTS TO LATIN AMERICA -
This is VERY important information you should know.

Chile is the easiest country to import parts into. If your vehicle is already in the country you will have been issued with a import paper - on this part is a temporary import number (TITV nr). When you need parts sent be sure to have this information on the envelope, this will help your package to pass through customs quickly and normally means that you will face NO import charges on the part.
We have shown the photograph of our envelope sticker.

Please copy this exactly then write your own import number and registration number on.

Very good for KTM owners! Chile has a huge mark up on parts that come in orange boxes! I was quoted prices 3X what is charged in CAN or the U.S.

If anyone has imported parts into Paraguay, please tell us if there were import taxes or not. I would like to import some parts, and am looking for a cost effective way to do it. Argentina and Brasil have 50% tax on imported vehicle parts.

I recently imported to Paraguay thinking that with minimal import duties it would be fine. It wasn't!

The issue is that any goods with a value over $100 will be retained by customs and even if the value is less than $100 they may decide to hold it anyway to check its value. The customs officials are extremely corrupt taking back-handers from import agents. In short ONLY import agents are allowed to import into the country you as an individual are not permitted to. What will happen is that you will need to pay an import agent to complete the paper work and release your spare parts which will cost a minimum of $100 on top of courier fees. It will take a few hours for the paperwork to be completed but may take all day.

However, I would suggest that Brasil maybe less corrupt but would be more expensive to import to.
