I need a bike in Santiago!

Hello,

Am flying into Santiago on the 10th of June and I am looking to buy a bike to travel around South America on. Does anyone have a bike for sale around this time?

Bikes for Sale

Hi Scottish,

If you can wait four weeks, we will be back in Santiago on 04/07 and selling at least one 2004 Yamaha XT600 with luggage.

Let me know if oyu are interested.

Jens and Kate.

Hi there

Thanks for the reply, I am only planning to stay here in Santiago for a few days so will not be here in 4 weeks. I am heading northwards through Argentina, is there any scope to selling me the bike sooner while you are on route to Santiago?

Hi Scottish, can't help with the bike but am also starting north through Argentina sometime this week (I'm in Buenos Aires now), heading for Iguacu, etc. I'll keep an eye on your progress. By the way, did you email the Santiago HU community about a bike? By far and away your best source of help! Dave.

Nice one buddy, will keep you posted on my progress.
How do I contact the HU community?

communities

James, to the left of this page you'll see a "community" tab. Below that, click on "contact a community" and it's all explained there. The communities are comprised of (mostly) other riders that can offer assistance to riders on the road. From my experience, they WANT to help and enjoy providing info, assistance, etc. I'll be a member of a community when I'm done with this trip! D.

Sorry Scottish,

Both our bikes are Chile registered and can only be sold in Chile. Also, we will still need them to get to Santiago :thumbup1:

We are in Puno (Peru) at the moment and heading into Bolivia tomorrow. The plan is to go through the Salar de Uyuni and San Pedro Atacama before heading south in Argentina. Might see you on route.

Hi Guys

Guessed that you might be needing them till you reached Santiago, but thought I'd check just the same. With regards to the bike being registered in Chile, how does this effect the sale else where? Do you pay tax on the sale in other country's? I had originally planed to sell a bike purchased in Chile in the US, Brazil or Paraguay, do you know what the implications would be? Any knowledge on the subject would be much appreciated.

Loved the web site, good luck!

Sorry mate, not a sausage!

Bikes in Chile are kind of expensive to start with, so I guess there is a whole lot of tax on them already. DonĀ“t know if you can reclaim the tax when you export the bike.

The reason why we go back to chile is to avoid all that pain and just get the money and run when we are ready to sell.
