Hotel Recommendations in Lima, Peru?

Hey Folks!
Currently in Ecuador, but my girlfriend is flying into Lima to visit for Christmas, and after reading a couple of posts, I'm a bit worried about the city's hotels being booked out because of the holiday season, and driving around on a KLR in Lima, which I've heard has some serious traffic, with a jetlagged girlfriend on the back, looking for a decent hotel with free space for us and the bike isn't my idea of fun......
So if anyone is in Lima, or has been recently, and knows of a nice place, preferably under $40 (as I'd like to still have some $$$ after she leaves) with parking, I'd much appreciate the recommendation, as I'd like to have something locked down before she arrives on Christmas Eve.
Thanks in advance and happy holidays....wherever you are on the road......

Flying Dog in Miraflores

Hi, I am every year staying in Miraflores in the Flying Dog Hostel near the Kennedy Parque. They have 4 hostels there and offer varieties from separate rooms to dorm beds (10 USD per night p.p.). Contact them by EMail and they will reserve you the space. Ask for Josef and John Hereira, they are super helpful. In the one Hostel you can also park your bike inside the hostel, there are more bikers around, Dan from the US with a KLR is currently there. All are clean, safe and good locations. Have fun, send my regards, Rasmus

Hotels in Lima

Last time my wife and I were in Lima on our bike we stayed in Mira Flores and I agree with the other posts Mira Flores is probably the nicest part of Lima. You are correct that traffic can be a nightmare. One trick my wife and I used in many cites throughout South America when were were there was when we got into a larger town and we did not know where the hotel was, we had my wife ride in a cab and I followed on the bike. In Lima this was quite a trick but I never got lost. This was the best way for us to find our hotel without riding around all over. Hope this helps.

Just spent 4 days in Lima- have to disagree about Miraflores I found it pretentious and massively over priced! El Centro Historico is nicer and has more character (great street food too!) I stayed at hostel Espana just around the corner from Plaza Mayor - 40 soles a night, nice terrace cafe with Parrots tortoises and a cat + got wi-fi and they let me park my bike in the lobby!

I support lobeydosser. I stayed in Espana too, with the bike in the lobby. You can have double room for 40 with shared bathroom and 50 with private bathroom. Ask for discount to get 5 soles from each price.
Cheers

OK, the info for Lima sounds good lobeydosser and machy, can you supply a GPS location for this place or maybe the actual street address.

mtbh2o, I use taxis constantly, I just get off my bike and flag one down, then give them my book with the address I want to go to and follow him, it is the fastest way, and mostly quite cheap as well. For instance, on the outskirts of Quito, I got to the Secret Garden in just under an hour for only $6. [ FYI - This place is great and a cheap fun place, but no moto parking and is on a steep cobblestone street, the parking place is 4 blocks away]

Cheers

When I arrived in Lima I got lost (inevitably) but stopped to ask a motorcycle cop directions- he ended up giving me a police escort to where I was going!
Hotel Espana is at the top of Jiron Azangaro(corner of Ancash) in the old town.

Thanks in advance!

Thanks to everybody for your recommendations!! I was getting a little worried with it being Christmas and all, but it looks like there are some good affordable options -and its much easier when you already know that there will be space for the bike - dont know about you all, but Ill sleep in the garage with the bike if necessary, so long as the bike is safe!! - So I will report back with the final decision and an opinion on the final choice when we arrive - going to go make some calls now -
Ride safe!
