Hi Everyone, need some help buying a motorcycle in Peru ( maybe Chile)

We are planning to buy a motorcycle in Peru (however some says it is easier to do in Chile ) and ride it around Sout America for a year or so and would like to get any tips advices in relation to this issue. There are a few details we are very interested in such as if there is limit how long you can ride it (own it ) with a foreign( British ) drivers license? Is it easy (possible ) to cross borders?
Also what are your thoughts about buying Chile vs Peru?
Any help appreciated.
Regards
Gyorgy

If you read posting number 143 by DanielMolloy72 in the «How to buy a bike in Santiago» thread the answer gives itself...

Dont event think about buying a bike in a taxfree zone, its only for the locals and have limited use outside the tax freee zones.

Peru is also a significantly cheaper country to live in than Chile.

I only know about Chile and rumours that Peru is more difficult. Suzisantiago (google them) in Santiago Chile will sort you out with the paperwork required to buy a bike here and leave the country with it. They're really helpful. Some people say it's not possible to cross borders with a Chilean bike as a foreigner, but they haven't had anyone turned away yet and are always on hand to assist. But, it's bloody cold down here at the moment! I might have a bike for sale in Santiago in the next few weeks (it's complicated!) if you need something else don't hesitate, Dan +61422814389 whatsapp

Peru or Chile

Chile would be a better place to purchase a motorcycle since there is a 75% sales tax in Peru...Yes the sales tax in Peru on cars and motorcycles is ridiculous... I lived there for 5 years and buying a vehicle is a eye opener... plus in Chile you should find a better selection of motorcycles because there economy is very westernized and don’t have this ridiculous tax and they were in NAFTA... good luck...

And I have lived for 40 years in Peru. Yes, there is a high tax on Japanese motorcycles (imported from Japan) and yes, they are some 70% more than in the states due to not only the higher tax, but the lower sales volume, etc.

But there are some excellent prices on Japanese motos in Peru that are made in Brazil, and the paperwork is VERY PRACTICAL in Peru. PM me.

Thanks for the input for everyone, appreciated. We have not made up our mind yet but as of now Peru is our preference, due to the ease of paperwork and as we understand crossing borders with a Peruvian plate might be easier.
