congratulations on your determination to continue and to finish the trip. i really hope you can find your motorcycle. i sent an email to brazilriders.com and the other day i got an email about your loss from the XTforum... my only concern would be that the motorcycle is in to ciudad del este the "black market" of south america... i bet if the bike is still in brasil they'll find it!
one question what would you have done differently to secure the bike?
thank you!

bad news

Hi Maria, I just found out about your bike theft. I can't add much but a heartfelt sympathy. At this point I'm quite attached to my little horse and can't imagine how I would feel if some sleaze stole him from me. I'm glad you plan to keep on trucking. Often, when something "bad" has happened to me over the past 2 years, something great happens as a result (like the flat tire that landed me in the homes of new friends in Russia). I hope this is the case for you now. Best wishes to you both, Hook.

So sorry to hear about your bike Maria. Here is the website for Brasil riders. I see that Salcar has already emailed them. Good thinking Salvador. They have hundreds of members throughout the country and are just wonderful folks.

Brazil Rider's
Brasil maybe a big country but.... there are few BMW f650's there. Stranger things have happened so don't give up hope yet.

Good luck
Cheers
Susan
I am not sure Brasil is any more dangerous than Venezuela per se or any other south american country. It is just plain bad luck.

Offering money-good and very bad

Mollydog
Yes it could help her may be , but don´t offer money to corrupt policeman because they will start to do that as a regular income of money.Locals cannot offer that much(or less probably)so this will be opening a new sport in SA.
Rebuying your overlander bike from many policestations often and often.
Some times a bike got stolen to be disasemble as sparepart lot! and this is done very quick too.So hopefully just a guy took the bike for having a nice ride on a nice BMW and this will surface sooner or later.
But offering money to the guys who should do this as their work.........
Saludos
KH

Maria, sorry to hear this news.
I don’t know if this approach is appropriate, and it will mean a few days knocking on doors and talking to people. Get the locals motivated to find your bike by showing them how it could cost them money.

Try going to the local mayor and tell him what has happened and how the news of this could hit tourism and reflect badly on his town. It is already being talked about on the internet by people around the world and recovering the bike would send a good message. Get the local news paper involved; tell them about your trip and how this could stop other travelers coming to this area. See if the hotel owner has any local Political / business influence as it's his business that will loose custom.
Maybe the mayor and local business can bring some pressure on the police, the higher up the command the better.

Bike recovered!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi guys, thanks all for your concern and best wishes.

Good news the bike was found, the thief caught riding it little b*st*rd was well known of the police but never went to jail because he was underaged. well he is over 18 now and many people are very pleased he´s going to be locked up at last!
The bike is not too badly damaged and we even recovered the stolen docs.
I don´t have much time right now. I will put more details in the next few days.
We´ve been very lucky.

From now on the bikes will be chained together every night no matter how safe the parking appear!

Bien content

Bonne continuation

Fantastic news !!

How was the bike stolen in the first place ?? Was it locked at all ?

Do you have an alarm ??

Did they hotwire the bike to start it ?

Im soo happy that you have you beloved bike back and all your documents.

I hope to see you at Viedma and Ushaia to hear about your excitment.

I fly out in 3 weeks and looking forward to these such adventures (hopefully not having my baby pinched though)

I've got a good lock and an alarm and any potential thief better prey they dont let me catch them stealing my baby Jessica (my XT lol), unless they want to see an axe wielding scouser jump out of a hotel window screaming a war chant !!
