helicoils

Hi all,

I am currently in Mexico, and managed to strip a bolt on the oil filter cover (maintenance indiced failure :-)). I have tried a lot of places for a helicoil set, but nobody knew what I was talking about.
Could somebody tell me the Spanish name, and where I could buy this stuff?

Thanks!

Auke

Would you believe "helicoils", try using "English-Spanish motorcycle dictionary" on the HUBB search facility. Suerte and ride safe.

Hola
I don’t know there in Mexico but here in Argentina we call “Insertos de rosca” and have two brands Helicoil and Insermetal. Try asking for an “Inserto”. Good luck…

Can't help you find them but rather than "helicoils" if you have the space use true inserts (not a coil but solid unit with threads on inside and out) these will hold much better. Way too many times I have had the coils start pulling out.

Good luck

In case you are still searching, yes, as Javkap mentioned the name they use in Mexico is like in Argentina ´inserto´. .The brandname helicoil is available in Mexico as well so just try to pronounce it with a spanish accent...
If you want to print out a píc see this link
Bollhoff Mexico, HeliCoil ®, insertos para reparar cuerdas.

A little tip, if you want to prevent the (especially alu) thread ending up on your ( steel) bolt , apart from using the right torque, always put some copperpaste onn the thread before putting back a bolt or nut

Spanish translations of English motorcycling terms

The following reference was formerly posted on the HUBB:

English-Spanish motorcycling dictionary

I have found the above useful, but "repuestos" (parts) for motorcycles sometimes have geographically based terms in spanish, so the ideas of others posted here seem more helpful in your particular situation.

Thanks!

For all the info. We'll continue south while, till we find the inserto de cuerda, making a trail of oil splashes along the way :nono:
