Guatemala Vehicle Question....

I'm flying from Guate back home to the States for a couple of weeks. I will obviously leave the bike in Guatemala. The Guatemala vehicle permit will still be valid upon my return. What procedures if any, to I need to go though to do this? Or do I just buy a ticket, fly home, and re enter the country just like any other tourist?

gracias......

To answer my own question:

Yes, you can leave Guatemala and leave your vehicle as long as you return before the vehicle permit expires.

No other procedures are required.

If you let it expire you will have to pay a daily fine upon re entering the country. I dont know how much that fine is, but I'm guessing that its not cheap.

If you need a place to store your bike in Guatemala City contact these folks at Adventure Planet They charge 8 bucks a day for bike parking including other stuff you want to leave with your bike. They are 15 minutes from the Guatemala City Airport

I have not used them but this is an option I am considering.

If the permit for your bike expires , you have to pay the import duties (pretty high!!) , not only a fine .
