?c? wow, I bet your truck cost more than my bike at £345 for the crossing!

We heard that no accompanied passengers vehicles were allowed from/to Dakar.
Does anybody have the same experience since we would like to go either from or to way...

mcgiggle 5 Jan 2012 05:42

We were going to leave from Dakar but changed our minds, the only problem we had leaving from there is you can only book two weeks in advance, so if the vessel is full you keep having to wait two week intervals until you get a place!

Cheers

Don´t walk with a stick as due to what they say are "Board of Trade" regulations, if you walk with a stick they will not allow you to travel with your moto on one of their Ro-Ro´s so my attempt to indulge myself in what I have been told is a great experience was thwarted. I suppose I shall just have to buy the company. Ride safe.

I am thinking of going from Dakar .Looking at there web site it seems that I can only get off in BA . Is this correct ? I would like to get off in Brazil . any one ever done this ?

mcgiggle do you mind me asking what it is costing all in from the UK to BA ??

mcgiggle 6 Jan 2012 09:13

Total cost for 2 people and 2 bikes is £5K

That's for the best cabin they do (thought we'd treat ourselves :) logic was that as you are on the vessel for such a long period and not a lot to do we'll probably be in the cabin more than you would be on a regular cruise, plus we've a spanish course to complete during the voyage, but you can knock off about £1500 if you go for the small inside cabin.

From Dakar I think cheapest is about £1300 per person/bike

Cheers
Pete

Hey Pete

Just booking my fifth Grimaldi to and from S. America. The cabin's for sleeping, showering and storing. I spend all my other time on deck or in the lounge (when not stuffing my face and putting on about a stone!). I had an inside cabin last time (40 days) and never missed having a window once. Spend the difference on your trip.

Just my two penneth.

Best Regards and Enjoy, Mick

thanks for that . so it seems i can save about a grand by going from Dakar with an inside cabin. seems like a good deal of cash for the ride down to Dakar .

Hi Mick - we are just planning/booking our Girmaldi shipping (ourselves and bikes) from Uruguay to Belgium and I see you have done this many times. Did you book direct with Girmaldi or did you use an agent? And, how was your paperwork process on the Uruguay side?

thanks! cheers, Shannon (S&M Boiler Works)
