Getting to Ushuaia, Tierra del Fuego

We are planning this trip and need to know the earlies possible time we can get all the way to the bottom and what the conditions might be. Ideally we would be in the area in late October to mid Novemeber.

Any advise would be appreciated.

Thanks I'm new to HU. I think I did it right. We'll see if I get a reply.

For bikes, November to February is good, October and March is pushing it with a good possibility of snow, especially at the ends.

You want to be in Ushuaia for Christmas and New Years anyway, great time to be there, as a lot of travellers will be there. It's a tradition!

So it sounds like late October would require some luck and mid November would work.

I'm going to be gone for several months but I think if I missed Christmas at home 2005 might be the last Christmas with my family.

We got down to Ushuaia on 22 September and that was before they put asphalt all over the lovely Garibaldi Pass. We had no snow going in (but it was very cold) and we had a bit of a snow storm coming out on the way up to the Pass, but it got mild very quickly on the way back down.

The earlier you go, the more unpreditable the weather is. However the road is "improving" down there all the time, with very little dirt left, so even with bad weather conditions, it can be done.
