Gasoline prices
Just planning the budget of trip through Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, Peru, Ecuador, Columbia, Venezuela, Brazil. I would like to ride around South America. Since I have done it around Africa I decide on riding always around continents. :scooter:So, can I ask somebody about the prices for gasoline in these countries?
Thanks Alex |

Argentine: 1 dollar/liter

It is what it is...
Funny -- After a recent trip I was asked this same question from several people and didn't have a good answer. The thing is, it costs what it costs and it isn't like you have a choice whether to pay or not. Gasoline is one of the few things you simply gotta buy local, and whatever the price is, you pay.
That said, my dim memory is cheap in Mexico and Ecuador, higher everywhere else. 'bout the same here in Chile as the above-mentioned Argentina. |
Yeh, I can never remember. There's no escaping the price of gas, and you go through so many different countries with different price levels that only someone really dedicated to information collection and retrieval will have answers to such questions. In the end, it matters not a bit.
Having said that, I do happen to remember the price in Venezuela because it's so far out of line with the rest of the known universe: 6 US cents per gallon, or 1.5 US cents per liter. Most of Latin America ranged from about a dollar to one and a half dollars per liter....give or take, subject to many exceptions. Mark |
When I rode around Africa I took notes of fuel prices all over the continent. kind of boring but useful.

world wide gas prices
Here is an interesting little noodle: Will take a little math, but give a look here:
Gasoline prices (most recent) by country |
Brasil
Having just been through Brasil fuel ranged from 2.4 Reais per litre in Minas Gerais to 3 Reais per litre in Oiapoque. Average price was about 2.65 Reais.
Be aware that I think they put lard in the fuel in Brasil because it made my bike very sluggish and I got poor mpg. When I arrived in French Guiana I immediately achieved OVER 30% more fuel efficiency. Unfortunately fuel does cost what it costs but enjoy the pleasure of filling up in places like Ecuador where if I remember correctly it was about $1.50 for a gallon. YES! |
