Favorite fly fishin' spots in Patagonia?
 

Anyone got any specific favorite creeks, rivers or lakes to go fly fishin' in Patagonia??

Yes... there are too many in Southern Patagonia.
Most of them are in private farms, but there is a good one near Rio Gallegos and you don't have to pay nothing.

Also you need to buy the fishing permit (70ARS) and you can't used a used wader

I agree with previous comment BUT I would really recommend getting a guide for at least half a day - he will take you places you would never find & once you know them..........

I assume you are looking for sea trout.

There is some great trout fishing at San Martin & Bariloche too

They guides I know, work @ Fishing Lodges and won't work for half a day. The freelance guides would, but they are expensive though.

But as Delbert said, the guides can take you to awesome places.

Ah i see. Thanks for the tips. Yeh i will be fishing for trout. I will see when the time and place comes if i hire a guide or not. I was hoping with this post for some of those places you would never find on your own. But i will still check the places out you have mentioned. Cheers!

In El Chalten you can fish Chinook Salmon.

I won't be in Patagonia during January, but i'll be back in Febraury

Good to know. Well mate im leaving Buenos Aires early january and head south until i can't go any further and then heading back north again. I have no real plans or dead line so I guess by February i will be along Ruta 40 or Caraterra Austral hiking, fishing and camping somewhere. So if you want to come laugh at a guy who catch a fish if his life depended on it (this event may actually come into play) then send me a P.M closer to the date.

P.S. iv only ever fly fished for trout back home and am far from an expert, I just google image searched Chinook Salmon and i they seem pretty big. Im going to buy a cheap fly rod in Buenos Aires before i leave, so will a 5/6 weight be big enough for these guys?

in about 2 weeks i am heading down from Mendoza to find some spots myself. I am using a book on fly fishing in argentina and it lists everything you need to know about it. First stop should be Los andes de Martin (I think) just north of Bariloche. When you heading down? got gear?

Sounds like a good read mate. Ah im leaving Buenos Aires around the 13th of Jan and heading to Ushuaia then up north again. I don't really have a deadline that i have to make or a route planned yet. Am kind of just going to wing it. But it will be a pretty steady pace with a lot of stopping to go, hiking fishing camping along the way i would imagine. No i couldn't bring my gear with me for various reasons, so i hope to find a cheap set up in B.A. before i set off. Be sure to let me know how your trip turns out.

5/6 will be fine for the rainbow and brown trout but not for sea trout or salmon. If you use a guide they will lend you a rod etc.
