FARC presence
 

Before leaving the UK I wasn't expecting to have to read up on a terrorist (/freedom fighters depending on your opinion) organisation to try and decide on a route, but hey ho.

I'd like to ride out to La Macarena to get to Caño Cristales in a few weeks, but I've read that FARC (what's left of them) were based in/around San Vincent. They mostly disbanded a few years ago, but apparently there's still a few (~2000) of the guerillas still fighting, but i can't find anything saying if they're still based in San Vincent (I guess because the police don't know where they're based or they'd do something). I also read that there was a call to arms by their former VP 2 weeks ago.

Does anybody have any up to date info on the region?

Thousands of people still going to Caño Cristales on bikes, tours etc.
That said, they have clamped down a lot on numbers, I hear 200 per day max now. Better you book ahead so you can access the park.

The chances of you bumping into any FARC members is the same as bumping into members of the IRA at your local Tesco's.

So, after October 31st, quite likely if BJ gets his way and you live in NI?
