Ecuador - Quito - Bikemechanic

Hi all,

Just to let you all know: I met Diego, a bike mechanic in Quito recently. He worked as a chef mechanic at KTM for a good period and recently started his own workshop servicing all sorts of bikes. Diego used to enduro/cross on KTM's. Speaks good english. Let you use his workshop. Owns a '08 KLR.

Diego's cellphone in Quito: 099702166

adress: Av. de los fresnos y nielsen esquina.. Conjunto eloy Alfaro local 2

Email: diego_s_@hotmail.com

No GPS coordinates available unfortunately.

cheers,
Sanderd

Be very careful!

If he,s the guy who worked at the unofficial KTM dealer in Quito he screwed up my bike quite royaly.
Best go to the official guy,he was at least trained in Austria and he had to fix all **** ups the other guy made!

Hi Albert,

Your guy was called Diego too? What age approx? Where was his workshop? Same adress? Was his workshop at an orange and green building?

Please let me know. I met Diego and think of him as an bike enthousiast to the core, and a thoughtful and intelligent person. So it would be a good thing to figure out if its the same person we're talking about.

Thanks,
Sanderd

Correct ID

Hi in reply to Albert Crutchers warnings about a bike mecanic in Quito, may i say i think there has been a mix up with ID.The Diego Salvador i met has his own garage and is a fantastic bike mecanic,on top of this a more friendly and helpfull person you would be pushed to meet.It saddens me to think that afew ill chosen words about a person can do so much harm,Diego has worked for the official KTM dealership in Quito, but he has never worked for any unofficial dealerships. He has helped many travellers over the years, including may i add many people from this site, and long may he continue to do so,and although i have no problem with people giving warnings on the site, please lets get peoples ID correct. Hi Trooper,

thank you very much for your post. too bad albert didn't took the effort to help sort out the right identity first before his remark.

Cheers,
Sanderd

Hi guys
Have to agree. Just had my bike into the OFFICAL KTM dealer in Quito and they know their stuff. Daniel the tech speaks good enough english and nothing was a problem and yes the owner has been to Austria many times. The local bikers speak very highly of the shop.
Cheers

Ktm Ecuador

Until 2007 there was no official Ktm dealer in Quito, the official dealer at that time was Wilson Malo in Cuenca, this is the guy I bought my bike from.
Now just off Av Los Shyris was a guy who sold KTM,s supplied by Wilson Malo.I cant remember the name of the store right now.But I can tell you that the mechanic, who at the time was supposedly trained managed to screw my bike up over a long period of time and them hand it back in a dangerous condition, having wrapped up my fuses in copper wire and jammed them back in.Then they charged me $300 for the privelege, then it broke down not 20m from the shop!
Then KTM due to the complaints from all the KTM owners in Quito opened up shop in Quito with genuine KTM mechanics-from then on the only place I got my bike serviced.
Now if you,d like to take a chance with your machine you go wherever you like. But I lived in Ecuador for 12 years and I,ll be sticking with KTM Ecuador.

Yes KTM Ecuador in Quito was the place I had mine serviced and they are very good at what they do. Nothing was any problem.
